I came "this" close to being an OTR trucker. (Following in the footsteps of my no-good daddy
.) I didn't want to drive unless it was a Kenworth (I didn't know Peterbilt built "Kenworth" looking trucks back then. I was prepped for school, the guy told me once I got my CDL, I'd almost instantly get picked up by someone, who would typically pay off the loan for the CDL, in return for a few years behind the wheel... I was all set, wifely didn't want me to do it though, but I was willing, especially since I was recently unemployed...
Fortunately, my phone rang and it was EDS wanting me to come to Plano to interview... The rest is hostory- but, I still love the big rigs.
I stumbled across this on the internet, and thought I'd show it...

This big joker looks like it'd be a nice place to relax after about 700 miles of cruising. I heard there's a lot of @$$ involved in trucking, but, at the truck stops I've stopped at, I didn't see anything that caught my eye (And I'm easy to please). Any current or former truckers out there with some stories to tell? This joker has at least two, and maybe four 100 gallon tanks on it... If that's legal to drive on the road, that bad boy should be able to go coast-to-coast, non-stop.

Travel Channel had a show about "Show Big Rigs", the other night.
WOW, some were very nice. I'm talking Cruise around town nice.
I wanted to be a trucker but became a dad first, then that took second priority. I'd rather spend time with the kids. I too have heard the road has some ***ential benifits.
The show is on again tonight at 8pm.

I have not seen a semi with wire spokes.
Here is a link to one with spinners. http://www.break.com/index/semi_truck_rims.html
Not that great of a shot but still.
I grew up watching "Movin On" with Claude Atkins and wanting to be a truck driver.

Anybody ever watch "Trick my Truck" over on CMT. They have some pretty cool rigs by the time they are done with it.

And Trick My Truck =
My Dad was a truck driver for over 20 years. He recently gave it up because he was tired of spending life on the road. His last couple of trucks were custom ordered from Peterbilt and they affix an emblem on the dash that says Custom Made for SOANDSO. It is pretty cool. His trucks were usually tricked out pretty good from the factory. Extended hoods and the longest wheelbase you could order. He preferred the flat-top roofs to the stand-up sleepers. With fuel prices going up, it is real rough on those truck-drivers, particularly the owner-operators.
I will try and post up some pics of some of his old rigs if I can get my hands on any.
