Have you already stopped the process per Vaders instructions? If not do so and then update your computer and make sure you have every critical update and service pack.
Yes, Vaders instructions seems to have stopped it. Tomarrow I plan to update everything when I get on her campus (faster internet there, it seriously took me a whole day to download AVG, Spybot, and Ad Aware with my crappy dial up)

Yes, its different. Like I said, when you click on the Help button, then Contents and Index, that is the window that keeps randomly popping up...

Hmm. Are you maybe hitting "F1" when you mean to hit Escape or another key? I've never seen that window come up on its own before.

Look at first picture that tells it to go to www.registryrepairxp.com
SPYWARE, clean your computer.

While it COULD be spyware/antivirus I can almost guarantee (short of seeing the system) you it isn't.

You are not infected. Just get a good firewall.

If you don't know how to use the net send commands chances are you don't need the messenger service. Individuals and non-networked users have no use for it.

Tical, I though about that, but one time it poped up and I was just sitting there staring at the computer, didnt touch anything.

Vader, do you know where I could get a good firewall? Also, you say "Individuals and non-networked users have no use for it." This laptop is going to be used on a college campus, which I though was some type of network...so now what about that?

When you get the sp2 update it has a firewall.

Kinda off topic, yet, watch out for SpywareQuake. I picked up this spyware/virus and took forever to get it cleaned off. Had a guy from Maximumpc.com forums walk me slowly through all the steps and such. What a mess.

Take care and good luck!

ZoneAlarm is free and is better than the SP2 firewall.

You can disable messenger, you won't need it for the college network, and the IT savy people will just screw with those who have it turned on.
