I stayed in the boat while other unmentionable friends and family memebers tired their hand at it. Seems too goofy to me.

you have to be crazy to put your hand in a hole underwater not knowing what is in it.

Can't those puppies sting you? (Hold on, let me check)

YUP

Catfish have no scales. All catfish, except members of Malapteruridae (electric catfish), possess a strong, hollow, bonified leading ray on their dorsal and pectoral fins, through which a stinging protein can be delivered if the fish is irritated. In members of the family Plotosidae, and of the genus Heteropneustes, this protein is so strong it may hospitalize humans unfortunate enough to receive a sting.
Why would anyone do that? And that snake thing mentioned earlier. Not only would I not do the grabbing thing, I wouldn't even go in the lake/river/whatever. Not if there are stinging fish and snakes!

Yeah, I'm a whimp, so what?!?!?!

Yes they can sting you.
As a kid I use to love to go catfish fishing. (With a fishing pole)
They are my favorite fish to eat, when properly cleaned and prepared.
I have been stung a few times, but only takes a time or two and you know where not to put you hand. I have never heard of anyone getting anything more than a ***** "like a needle", never heard of anyone haveing to go to the hospital because of a catfish sting. I'm sure it has happened, but I've never heard or known of anyone.

For noodeling, NO FREAKIN WAY, would I ever; stick my hand in a hole, just to see what was in there and hope that it was what I wanted to be in there. I'm a risk taker and gambler, but in this, the juice is not worth the squeeze. Not when there are easier, safer ways to get the same result. Like a pole, spear, or bow.

I had someone tell a few years ago that they were saltwater fishing and they were in the river here and caught a good sized catfish. Since he was saltwater fishing he went to kick the catfish back in the water from over the side of the boat and one of the spines went through his shoe and got stuck in his big toe and they were not able to pull it out. According to him, they broke the spine off of the fish and then went to an ER and they had to cut his shoe off of him and the doctors had to remove the spine from his toe.

I don't know if it was a true story or not since I wasn't there.

There is no way that I would stick my hands in a stump or in dark water. Even in ultra clear water, I wouldn't do it.

Isn't that what a proctologist does? (I don't want to watch though)

There is a guy that I work with that just got out of the hospital because he got finned. He was in there for a couple of days.
