One Of Those Days?
You ever have one of those days where nothing goes your way? For me, today was one of those days. I had my annual optometry check up. Didn't go so well.
1. WITH OUT my glasses or contacts, I passed the point where I'm considered legally blind. To put in in perspective, look at your watch normally, with out corrective lenses, I would have to hold the watch 5" from my face.
2. I'm no longer correctable to 20/20 with my current contacts.
3. I can't wear contacts when I fly ever again.
4. Unless I can see 20/20 with the new super heavy duty contacts they ordered, I am not allowed to wear contacts on or off duty, flying or not.
5. If my vision degrades at the rate it has been, I will not be able to fly AT ALL in less than 2 years. After flying non-stop for 5 years and loving every minute of it, it would suck *** to have to retrain out of a flying career into a ground job.
I'm ugly enough as is, having to go back to glasses that can start brush fires does not make me happy. My only option is the laser surgery known as PRK. There is no guarantee that it will work & they could screw up my eyes. If they do in fact screw up my eyes, I will be medically discharged post haste. There is a chance that I can get the surgery and nothing will go wrong & I can be restored to 20/20 but I will not know until I have my consultation with the eyeball lazer zapper doctor.
To alleviate my pissed off attitude, I drowned my sorrows with a 9 pack
& 3 cigars
. I'm pretty much numb right about now & my wife thinks I'm insane. To make me feel better, my scheduler is sending me on a trip that goes from McGuire to South Carolina to California to Hawaii to Guam to Japan to Australia to Japan to California to North Carolina to McGuire. Should be about 2.5 weeks & loads of fun.
