Photoshop heads, little help

Let me start off by saying I am an idiot.

I would like to be able to do somethings with a few pics I have.

I have tried Paint. Looked simple, well it wasn't.

I downloaded that Gimp program, looked more sophisticated, I'm still stupid.

Looking to maybe purchase a version of Photoshop, as I could probably find a course at the local college or something to teach me how to use it.

Can anyone point me in a direction to learn to do things with any of these?

I was thinking about looking into that video professor guy that is giving away his learning cds on tv, but haven't gotten there yet.

I wouldn't feel so bad if it was simple sh*t I was trying to do, but hell a 3 year old probably can figure it out better than I am able to.

thanks

dave

It just depends on how you learn. I think most people learn by googling Photoshop Tutorials.

Bascially just doa google search for "photoshop tutorials"

I'm sure there are some for the other programs too. Dig enough and you will likely find one tha ttells you step by step how to do exactly waht ever it is you want to do in any program.

What they said, PLUS:

Do you have any friends that have any experience with computers / photoshop? I learned by tuts and asking tons of questions. Before this forum, I was a member of another one, and they had a forum just for photoshop. (I wish Steve would hook us up. ) Anyway, I asked tons of questions and I learned a lot. Ask away. Myself, Matt (PSS-MAG), UC, vader, Bill, dzervit, and a few others can try our best to get you up to par.

I learn programs just by playing around with them. It's easier to find where things are and how to use them by using them myself rather than reading tuts, well for me anyways. If that fails there's always the F1 key.

I'm the same way, I can;t just read a tut then go do it, I have to read it and do it step by step along with the tut. Do step one then go bac kand read step two. do step three then go back and read step 4. etc etc etc.
Once I've done it once, then I'll remember it forever.

Tuts and playing is the main way that I taught myself photoshop. I have freinds that helped if I got stuck too.

Since you have GIMP and since it is free, give it another try. I was forced to use GIMP for a while and found that it is very, very close to Photoshop. There are many tutorials for GIMP out there as well, so you can give it a good try.

The new versions of Photoshop, blow GIMP out of the water though, so if you are going be making some advanced images there is no substitue for Photoshop. If you are just messing around, try GIMP, I found it to be just as useable as Photoshop.

Dude, if you found Paint and GIMP difficult, why would you even consider Photoshop?

That's what I use. True I have found Photoshop better in a few ways, but I am more comfortable with PSP.

I was thinking the same thing.......I would recommend you leave the full version alone.....especially if you had issues wityh GIMP......If you are just looking at trying to do some minor fixes to photos you took, go to GOOGLE and search for PICASA......you will find that this program rocks for photo management as well as basic editing tools......plus.....it is FREE....
