Offshore Fishing..

Anyone into it?? We have a big tournament here every year. It's called the Mid Atlantic 500. It started yesterday and goes all week. Each boat is allowed to fish 3 of the 5 days. The Money that can be won is crazy..like Millions if you win it all. Anyway, my buddy just called from the Sat Phone and said he caught a 71" White Marlin and they are on their way back in so they can be first at the scales for weigh in at 5pm tonight. This fish, can deff. be a winner. If anyone's interested or just looking to waste some time, check out the site www.ma500.com if you click on web cams and then choose Cape May you can watch the weigh in which again, start at 5pm tonight. I think ima leave here a little early so I can get home to get my camera and then head doen to the dock...

Hey.....how'd I miss a fishing thread. WTF is the matter with me. I must be slipping.

I have fished offshore ONCE, and it was a bad experience. We were in the Gulf, and there was a storm a brewin and the water was super rough. Catch a nice batch of red snapper, a hammer head, and something else, but I dont remember what it was.

I'd like to do it again when the waters are calmer. I might actually enjoy fishing.

Are you gonna post some pics if ya get any?

Well, even though you were stuck in a storm, it sounds like you had a good catch. I did get a few pictures so I'll load them up and post a few. My buddy I was talking about in my original post caught a 75lb White Marlin which is a real nice fish. However, my other buddy, on a different boat weighed in an 88lb White Marlin...thats gonna be a hard fish to beat. Looks like he might be buying all the rounds at the bar this friday night..LOL.

Is that the same Cape May, where they hold those shark tourny's? I would love to watch a big offshore tourny weigh-in.

I love offshore fishing but I'd rather fish in skinny water. Can't beat watching tailing reds and trying to get them to bite lures.

Yeh man. They just had a shark tourney a few weeks ago. I think there's a few throughout the year.

jamzwayne where in Tx are you. I am heading down to either Roll Over Pass or High Island tommorrow and this weekend if you are interested. The fishing has been good for specs, bull reds and sharks.

Rain checks are good here.

The bull red run should be starting in the next week or two. It is crazy fun to catch 40+" reds. And lots of them.

Funny you mentioned that....It has been feeling a little froggy lately. I left 2 black marks yesterday...nice long and dark too. I had to double check to see if it was actually a V6. I popped the hood, and yep 6 plugs.

Heres a picture of my buddy and the crew with the White Marlin he caught. Hes the one in the blue kneeling down next to the fish. It's not the best picture ( I didn't take it ) but I figured I would post it anyway since im here at work bored to death. If you want to see some more pretty cool pictures, go to the website I posted in the original poast and then go to the photos page. There's a ton of pictures.

That's a nice fish.
I'd love to catch something like that. Not to win a tourny or money, that'd be nice too, but the thrill of just fighting that fish would be awesome.

Yeh I know, that was pretty crazy.
Unfortunately my buddy in the pic I posted was knocked out of the running by a 77lb White. BUT..one of my other buddies was the mate on the winning boat. 88lb White Marlin, took $803,000.00 for the biggest payout ever in the Mid Atlantic 500
