Whats the best way to buy plane tickets?
Whats the best way to buy plane tickets?
I am planning a trip for (hopefully) around the first week in October. My plan is to fly from Jersey or Philly to Texas, then from Texas to Orlando and nthen back to Jersey. I would much rather fly out of Atlantic city, I hate going to Philly International so if it would make more sense to go to Florida first, then Texas then back to Jersey, so be it. I'm just wondering if I could do this online without any worries of it getting screwed up, should I go to a travel agent and get rapped or just call an airline and do it over the phone directly thru them?
Also, just pluggin in dates and stuff for flights, a round trip ticket is so much cheaper than one way. Am I gonna have to buy a bunch of round trip tickets just to get a good price??
I've flown all over the place but it has always been to and from one place at one time. I've never planned a trip with multiple destinations so I have no idea what's the best way to go about this. Any help would be appreciated

When I was in the US, I used Travelocity online for all my tickets.
Never had a problem there.

Well you could call here and have one of our leisure agents book the tickets for you. Heck they could quote it for you. They charge a $35 ticketing fee though. The prices would be about the same as online, possibly a little cheaper.
The only action our leisure agents get anymore are from rich people, package deals, or complicated trips where it is worth the fee.
To me $35 isn't bad if you have a lot of connections or hops.
Drop me an email and I'll see if they can get me a price on what you are doing.
Dates, times, locations, etc.

I usually fly Continental or American and book online at their own websites. They have options for multiple destinations, you enter the locations, times and dates and you get long lists of flights.
I usually will play around on the sites trying various combinations to see what prices come up (and makes notes so I don't forget). Then, just for giggles I'll call the airline, tell them what I want and see if they quote me a lower price. I'll also then check Expedia which gives me prices for a bunch of airlines all at once. Then I choose the lowest which is almost always booking on the airline's own web site.
I don't know if a wide variation of prices can be found for coach class, but it's amazing what kind of price variations can be found for business and first class travel this way. The best deal I ever got this way was Christmas of 2004 when I flew to Paris. I found prices for first class ranging anywhere from 2500 bucks to 10500 bucks. Then I found a first/business class flight for 1300 (which is great because American had no first class on the transatlantic legs of the trip so it didn't matter). Guess which I took?

Price the fare on Sidestep.com, mark down the flights you want to take, then book directly on the airline websites...that's always worked for me.
If you plan to also book a hotel, book the flight and hotel together at Expedia or Travelocity and you will often get a huge break on the hotel over booking the tool separately on the hotel and airline website.

Tom - go to http://www.sidestep.com and select "Multi-City".
Sidestep will search a variety of sites and come back with various options.
For kicks, I put in a trip from a trip Philly-Houston-Orlando-Philly - lowest price for the complete trip was $277. (sidestep will mix/match carriers as well depending on price - ie, a couple of the trips may be on Continental and the other on United)
There's also a couple new sites out there as well - I just read an article in the Star Ledger last Sunday that detailed them..... you could probably still find it on www.NJ.com
(If you move your trip up a couple weeks, you could add Montana as a fourth leg of your trip: http://www.testyfesty.com/) (from http://www.2camels.com/index.php)

Jamz, I'm not laying over in Dallas. My goal is to get to Witchita Falls to spend a few days with a good friend of mine. I just think Dallas FW is the closest I can get to him. So a few days there, then off to visit my sister in Florida. If all goes as planned, I will be in Texas on Friday and leave the following Tuesday. If this all happens I will let you know when it gets closer. If there's any way possible to meet up, I will do my best to make it happen.
