Unhappy Bad Day

if you members that have been here awhile remember i told you of the house next door burning down 4 yrs ago..
now that me and my buddy marc took it down earlier this yr..things on the rebuild was going smoothly until 2:45 this afternoon...
now i did not see anything or hear anything untill the ambulance and fire truck were outside my front door...
one of the roofers fell off...
landed on the deck..probably 25 foot fall..

landed flat on his back...
broken elbow...
wrist..
hand..
leg..
and the homeowner was on the deck not 2 feet away of where he landed...
he was awake at first..passed out 5 min after landing..
he was air lifted from here to U-Mass Med center in Worcester, Mass..

this is not good...at all...

i did not see or hear anything even though its only 30 feet from my kitchen..

i was doing the dishes...

...zap!

yikes! thats not good, sorry to hear that.

Considering the fall, he didn't seem as bad as it could have been. just a couple weeks ago a guy at my work fell 30 feet and had numerous bones broken everywhere and still in the hospital.

how did he fall? just slid down the roof??

That is nt good.. He could also have back and head injuries. Hope he recovers. OSHA is the workers safeety board there? Did he need to be tied off?

Many years age I had a small roofing business. I had one guy working for me that had fallen several years before I hired him. He had impaled himself on a pipe.Back first, how he survived was wonderous, the scar on the front of his chest was horrible. The ribs had healed with what looked like knuckles. He was also a little simple as a result, a hard worker for about the first half of the day then he would just sort of fizzle. He still tries to work but he also mixes it with panhandling. Fe must be all of early fifty now.

Still see him around panhandling and doing odd jobs. He is a nice enough guy. When see im I usally buy him a coffe or sometime breakfast.

Hope that guy has better luck.

My dad was in construction and fell a couple of times. He was extremely lucky both times. Nothing serious happened, which was amazing.

My thoughts and prayers are with this man and his family.

I hope someone has got some good insurance!

I'm also curious as to why he wasn't tied off. Most jobsites I visit up in your part of the coutry are absolutely militant about things like hard hats and tie-offs. It sounds to me like someone might have been taking a few shortcuts and are about to be busted on it!

When I was in South America last year. I watched an hand made and fired brick wall go up and collapse twice, the third construction attempt they spread tobacco and only built it half height.

I had to go investigate and the wall was build adjecent to an existing wall with a 4" space between. I think the excess mortar was falling behind the wall as they built it up. As the morter built up and with the vibration of construction it packed ( vibrated) the mortar untill it had enough head pressure to roll the wall.

Or it was just built on a haunted site like that of your neighbor.
