went to the range today

I had a good day today. I went to the gun range and did a little blastin. I put about 300 rounds through my XD. Put a few rounds through some of my friends guns also. Last time I went there I rented a MP5. Full autos are cool! Today I got to fire a silenced Walther .22. It was pretty cool too.

I'm no good with a with a hand gun, with a 303 ( old spring field ww 1 rifle my dad gave me ) I can hit the barb wire on a fence 175 to 200 three out of six times. with out a scope, you rise up the sights that are marked in various yardage.

I rented a Glock and some amo and practiced anger management at a gun range, I had a blast and managed to get a few kills on the paper target's, I also hit a lot of shoulders and arms.

Of late, Thier a alot of gang land lossers running around here in Calgary shooting up every thing but each othier.

And I was not out shooting farmers fences with out thier consent, My Aunt bought some land and want's the fence taken out.....

I'm going to have to throw the BS flag on this little statment. The .303 Caliber was most commonly found in Canadain WW1 weaponry in 2 versions the Ross and the Lee Enfield. Most likely you have the Lee Enfield, since most soldiers disliked the Ross weapon even though it was far more superior concerning accuracy.

Assuming you did have the Ross (more accurate) it is not capable of producing groupings using hand loaded cartridges much less than 1" at 100 yards. (1 MOA) this would put your groupings at around 2" at the distance you are talking about. And this is assuming you are aiming at exactly the same point (very hard to do even with proper rests). And all this without a scope. I've been witness to some shooters that are amazing using modern technology (scopes, handloads, etc) who wouldn't be able to hit barb wire at 200 yds.

Sorry... better luck next time.

I've seen guys here strike a match at 100 yards with a .22 from a bench.......

Of course these are competition shooters and had $4K-$6K worth of machine work alone done to thier 10-22's.

Still a very impressive spectacle to watch.

I haven't been out yet. But it won't be long. Still trying to decide what rifle to take to WY for antelope. We use MLs in one area of private land, but adjacent to it we can use centerfires. Some shots are quite long, so I may take the 270 AM.

Other than that, one of my 270 Wins will do. I'm glad you posted this, I need to get busy. Oct 3rd will be here before you know it.

To the guy with the 303: If you can really hit barb wire (more than just one lucky shot), then you are a helluva lot better shot than me and I'm not bad. I've been reloading for 20 years and utilize most every step you can imagine to achieve the best accuracy. All of my bbls are custom handlapped. I'd really like to see someone do what you say at that range with open sights.

This is one of my recent targets, and it took a few years of practice to do this with any consistency. Oh, that is three shots by the way. 110 yards. This is a hunting bullet, not a match grade bullet.

I think he was BS'ing about the Barbed wire.

At 175 to 200 Yards, he would barely be able to SEE the barbed wire much less hit it without a scope. I shoot deer at 250 yards on a regular basis, and with a 14X Leupold Gold Ring, a big buck looks like a dog....But then again he didn't say he hits a STRAND of barbed wire...maybe he hits a big roll of it

Well, honestly I do not like to call anyone a liar but I'll admit I do not believe it. I know exactly what you mean with the deer in the scope. I shot a mulie in Colorado at 354 (lasered) yards. The scope is a Leupold 4.5x14 on full mag. The deer looked pretty small, but I killed it. Here is a picture of my 270 AM with a Nightforce scope on it:

Here's a view through the scope at my neighbors garage (before I mounted it on the rifle). It is the NP-R2 reticle:

Naaa. This is my long range rig. The zero on it will most likely be around 500 yards, not 40 like his garage.

And truth be known, it will be a dial and shoot rifle. Laser the range in the field, dial in the scope, and use the same centered crosshair.

Doc, the shifter's on the wrong side of that rifle though...

Nice gun, BTW. Even for a southpaw.
