I'm sure it varies state to state.
Here it has to be a 3 step process to use it and ammo has to be seperate.

Example, gun unloaded in console
ammo + clips in the glove box.

This gives you 3 steps to use it and they are stored seperate.
You must 1. get the gun 2. get clip, 3 load clip and chamber before you fire.

or just dont give themn a reason to search you.....

Nice piece BTW

I don't know about Florida, but in Georgia, if you don't have a CCW permit, you cannot carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle. The firearm and the ammunition must be stored in seperate compartments of the vehicle.

And if you're gonna carry it, I'd ditch that Uncle Mike's holster. They work alright for just totin' around the house, but back when I first started carrying, I carried a steel Government model 1911 in an Uncle Mike's slip on holster - think "soup sandwich" here, didn't work well at all.

I now use kydex holsters from Sidearmor and Comp-Tac.

i have to check those out, they gave me two boxes of ammo and the uncle mikes in the pants holster for free, so it'll have to do until i find a better one.

i would like to find a better in the pants holster but this is a pretty big gun to conceal it has a 4.25" barrel

Why did you pick such a big heavy gun for CC?

Wouldn't something like this have been a much better choice?

Shoots +P's and weighs only 13.5 oz.

I carried a full size 1911 (5" barrel) under an untucked T-shirt with no problems before. A good belt and holster makes all the difference in the world.

It is not necessary to have a license or permit to carry a loaded firearm in a private vehicle, so long as the gun is "securely encased". Florida law defines a weapon as being securely encased if the firearm is in a glove compartment, whether or not locked, in a snapped holster (not worn on your body!), in a zippered gun case or in a box or other container that requires a lid or cover to be lifted or opened in order to gain access to the firearm. These restrictions do not apply to any person who holds a valid Florida Concealed Weapon License or a reciprocal state license/permit.
you can also check out www.handgunlaw.us

i love the .45.

Gettin' good with a snub nose revolver takes a lot more work and effort than most people are willing to put forth. Especially those strange people that get a kick out of like .357s or .38 +Ps that weigh less than a pound. I know I don't want to work that hard for a little easier concealability.

I'm a firm believer in carrying the biggest (size, not necessarily caliber) gun that can be effectively concealed. Bigger guns are easier to control under recoil, longer sight radius makes them easier to shoot.

Not true.

"Exceptions: No license is required:

1. To carry a firearm, openly or concealed, in one`s home or place of business.

2. To transport a firearm, unloaded, enclosed in a case and separated from ammunition, provided the possessor is not ineligible to obtain a license to carry.

3. To transport a loaded firearm in a private motor vehicle, provided it is carried in an open manner fully exposed to view, or is in the vehicle`s glove compartment, console, or similar compartment."

While everything you say is true........... if I find myself in a situation the requires me to take aim, I'm already far enough away that I can most likely escape, and flee.

I don't intend on ever getting myself into a gun fight, with anybody.

wakebordlf,

Lucky for you and me,Florida is a very friendly state as far as arming yourself as a responsible citizen. To get the ccw permit, you need to take a ccw class. As far a not having a permit while carrying in your car, best way to stay within the law is w/ a trigger lock engaged.

Here is some of the latest info on ccw law updates, aside from the"cowboy law" passed earlier that(in rough terms) states,w/ ccw, you do not have to retreat before being able to use deadly force..

From the Sun-Sentinel:
Quote:
Floridians with a gun permit can now continue to carry their weapon during a state of emergency under another bill Bush signed.

I guess they're trying to prevent another New Orleans situation.
Way to go Jeb!

Regards, Keys

oh, another bill he signed:
Quote:
Bush also signed a bill allowing gun owners to bring their weapons into Florida's national forests and state parks, although they can't hunt.

Supporters say law-abiding people should be able to defend themselves in natural areas

And part three - Bush signed a bill to keep concealed permit holder information from being published by newspapers, internet, etc.

Stay safe,
Frank

BTW.In a Fla summer, the best ccw weapons are either a keltec p3at w/ some work to get reliabilty as close to 100 percent,or a s/w j frame 38+ p in pocket holsters.Otherwise youll probably not want to carry it.And the first rule in a gunfight is to HAVE a gun.. fwiw
