For those with Dell Laptops

You might want to check this out. Sort of in the league of the Ford cruise control recall.

LMAO... the media is loving this one just about as much as they loved the cruise control module and the firestone tire issues...

I have 8 Dell's that are probably included in this recall at work... I'll get to it when I get to it. Again, something getting blown out of proportion... (now that I've said that, one of the lappys will ignite and burn the place down tonight... )

I have 2 Dell computers, ones a regular Desktop, and the other is a notebook that I use for work purposes, and that ones under this recall.

as long as they fix the problem, I don't have a problem with them. I just dont want my truck or house burning down due to this notebook.

As you said, it has been overblown. That being said I did see the video of one, I think in Japan, that exploded. I don't mean just burn, it exploded.

I know 5 of the 8 are included... I guess I'll start that ball rolling tomorrow. *sighs* Just what I need, another PITA to deal with --

Not as if I'm rebuilding our server (two 500 gb drives backing up nightly to an external HDD via firewire), trying to get our NAS up and running and adding THREE new print servers...

Oh yeah, did I mention I'm a GEOLOGIST and not an IT guy?

They were all made by Sony. I find it interesting that I haven't seen a recall by Sony for their laptops. May have missed it, but wonder if the batteries they built for Dell were done to a "different" standard.

Edit - some pictures

Just an FYI. Apple is now recalling 1.8 million laptops with Sony batteries.

Surprised they were that quick. Course they could have been planning for the recall for quite a while.
Now that Apple is also doing a recall, I wonder how long it will be before HP, Sony, and others announce a recall.
