At $11,000 fine for 70 tickets, it seems the fines are a lot LOWER per ticket in Scottsdale than they are in my neck of the woods.

Also, the article indicates she may have her license suspended. That's all? I would think she would lose her license and get sentenced to jail time.

She is stupid, but those speeding cameras scare the crap out of me. It is the start of a big brother is watching world! The thought that I could loose my licence and have no clue for a few months just plain pisses me off. It's just a quick effective way to pad the goverment coffers with little to no effect on the safety of the public

I agree with everything you said.

I got a ticket from a red light camera. The fee on the courtesy notice was like $328. I went down to plead for a reduced fine. Got there early and there were HUNDREDS of people waiting in line. Basically, traffic fines (cameras as well as traditional officer written tickets) are a HUGE part of my local government's revenue.

Since the local government has to pay like a $100 cut to the camera company, they will usually not reduce your fine very much if you get busted by the camera. Can't remember the exact numbers, but my judge said by statute she could not reduce my 'red light camera' ticket to anything less than $225, then I had to take traffic school ($75 or so) to keep if off my record. A kid in the same court room got pulled over by a cop for running a red light. His courtesy notice fee was like $170 and since he had no money the judge reduced it to $30.

Talking Scottsdale speed cameras are a joke

Those would be the same cameras that "CAUGHT" a man driving a (not new) Hyundai Sonata at a supposed 147 MPH. Is that a crock of crap or what?
When Ch3 news contacted the local Hyundai dealer, they told the reporter, the car is only capable of a top speed of 131 on a test track, under perfect conditions. Those are the same cameras that have caught 30 Police officers in Marked units & motorcycles at speeds in excess of 100 MPH, I doubt it.
I know when I go thru them, I'm at 66 MPH, even though they announced on the news, they will allow 11 MPH over the limit, before going off, I don't trust them.
Even with a camera reflecting palte cover (legal in az) I don't trust them or the cover 100%

Drivers seem to be getting worse. It got so bad here I would slow down when I had the Green and look in case anyone was going to run the Red.

I see people talking on cell phones and just blow right through Red lights.

What if you are on motorcycle and someone runs the Red and slams you? Good chance you will be seriously maimed or killed.

We have plenty of illegals here too and they just drive how they please.
They wreck someone and if they can leave the scene its adios.
They killed someone a couple weeks ago and just split before the cops
showed.

Are you saying you agree with traffic cameras?

I am just making a comment on what I’ve witnessed over the last few years. I don’t want to be on a bike and get killed by some woman yapping on her cell, or some illegal who can't drive, running a Red light. We have a few cameras here but they are not curbing the problem.

I hate those cameras for many reasons but here is my main reason to hate them. Lets say you take your truck to the dealer for service and they have to do a road test in your truck and they run a red light where there is a camera and you get the ticket in the mail sometime latter.

Personally, my feeling is they should not be allowed in court, unless they take a picture of the plate and driver. Yes, I know the courts have ruled that you are responsibly for vehicle. Just don't agree with them.
Rather than a $50 dollar fine from a photo ticket for running a red light, I would much rather see people being stopped by police and given a $1000 dollar fine for running the light. I have been close to being hit by someone running a light, and have seen people hit from someone running a light. I have seen many stop at the light then ignore it and go on..

I would be pretty sure that if you took a copy of the invoice from the service center to court to prove that you were not in posession of the vehicle at the time of the offense that they would drop it or find out who was driving it.

The redlight camera that nailed me had a close up picture of my plate, a picture of the front of the vehicle clearing showing the driver and a picture of the intersection showing my truck from the rear with the red light in front. Pretty compelling.

I basically had a brain fart, was thinking about something else, and cruised through the intersection a little late. I despite red-light runners and am normally a safe and cautious driver, but I had a moment of inattention. It was a VERY expensive lesson. Now I ride my brakes anytime I am near a red light camera. We have 6 or 7 around town. There was an article in the paper recently showing the $ Millions the city receives from these things.
