anyway..
cast is in diffrent grades and without getting into it its best to (if its a crack) grind out the crack a little bit to get it to good metal..no rust and yuk..

pre heat with a torch..but not so hot...kinda like its ready for eggs..
tig weld with nickle 99 or if you use a stick welder get the same alloy rod...

weld fast...
after done reheat with a torch again to kinda "anneal" it..
the best thing after that is to bury them in a REAL BIG box of vermiculite...it will let them cool off overnite rather in hrs...
the cooling is the problem...

heat the whole thing...not just the weld zone..

the cast is cracked and soaked with oil. they do pre-heat it and try to slowly cool it but we are fixing 5000lb axle housings out of Caterpillar Haul Trucks. after a few attempts it is fixed but it doesn't always look pretty.
