Raising the terror threat levels has NOTHING to do with politics and everything to do with CYA.

Terrorist ARE real and in case some have forgot over 3,000 people were slaughtered almost 5 years ago on September 11, 2001. There was NOTHING political about it…

Those who believe republicans or more specifically, President Bush, is trying to scare the public then you would be correct and that is his duty. His duty is to inform the idiots whose attention spans last a day or less that there is a REAL threat you could DIE at anytime due to terrorist.

I truly believe those that believe President Bush is “scaring” people for political gain only are the same people who truly believe we would be safer today if we had just continued on with our picnics and BBQ’S and looked at 911 as something “cool and exciting” that happened.

Reality and the truth are scary people, get over it and stop making it into some kind of political spin when it isn’t. Monica and Clinton was political spin, 911, terror threat levels, and our President reminding people to be vigilant (scared to those who don’t know better) is not spin, it is reality and the truth because if we sit by and do nothing only a truly brain dead person would not be scared…
Very well said.

Then wouldn't that go against the argument put forth that the level is only used for political gain? Do you think the DHS evaluates each and every potential threat solely against potential political gain and decides to raise or lower it according to only that metric?

Hold on there just a minute, that describes me almost every time that I fly! One of my first things to do on a long flight is to mix Scotch and water, and I have been called worse than nutcase. So lets change this some, if they mix liquids and then stir the liquid with their cell phone then it's OK to whack them. Otherwise it might be some harmless guy like me that just like to drink and is much more pleasant if allowed to do so.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled political banter.

I think the DHS gets clearance from the WhiteHouse before a color change is made and does not make such decisions on it's own.

Interest/Fear/Approval from an elevated Level could not hold up from May/June until November.

2004 proved that August til election will hold water.

Election Day Nov 2nd 2004 - Orange
Nov 8th 2004 - Yellow (Stop selling fear/Start selling we are making significant gains)

I'm surrounded and low on ammo.....

They won't take me though.
Get out of here Vader, I'm gonna start chucking Mason Jars.

(besides the webmaster directed a post at me that ended with a ?)
(and besides that, we sucked him into a political thread)
(if he deletes it, his own post count will go down and that is a Victory. Isn't it?)

It almost sounds like they think that the Terror incidents themselves are a creation of the political machine...

Damn Raoul -

I admire your tenacity, but I'm reaching a point of doing the expat thing, joining the likes of Hemingway and Eliot, and Pound. Unlike them though, I probably won't write great literature (although I'm trying) and instead will open a Pizza joint in Geneve.

That way I can enjoy the relative quiet of a neutral nation that has fairly conservative values yet a somewhat progressive policy of governance. (They are certainly more democratic than US). Plus they have all the International News outlets on TV so I can witness the continued decline of the "homeland" as it further slides into a pit of fear, anger, and despair, not to mention economic ruin.

Plus, the scenery is great, and as an added bonus, I would be living near Shania Twain (which improves the scenery even more!)
