If they ban high-powered motorcycles, as much as I like them, I won't lose any sleep.

If they can show me one bike rider, who can adequately explain why he or she needs a bike that can travel over faster than a police car could ever hope to, then I say they can have it. I have no problem with awesome accelleration, so be it. Top speed, until cops start getting cars that can cruise to 150+, I'd say no... But, I'm not in charge...

I say, govern the SOB's (Motorcycles) to 110 MPH, that way Officer Friendly in his Crown Vic can run the assmunch down, if he decides to break the law, and if a bike is found "modified" to remove the governor, the fine is mandatory sentencing to seven years in federal "pound-them-in-the-a--" prison.

So I take it your rules apply to all the rice and modified/ stock cars that can travel faster than a cop car?!?

I agree motorcycles should be governed for speed. I also believe there should be zero tolerance for excessive speeders. Any thing over 50 mph over the posted limited should be a automatic licence suspension for 2 years and automatically loose your bike license for good.

My thoughts exactly!

Somebody said that riding/owning a motorcycle is a privilege, and I guess they said that because that specific right is not granted in the Constitution.

The right to own guns is granted by the Constitution and unlike this motorcycle are literally designed to kill people and other things.

In 2003 there were 30,136 gun related deaths.

In 2001 there were 70 motorcycle deaths out of 2,285 craches.

I believe in owning guns of all kinds for sport and enjoyment and I belive in owning any type of motorcycle for the same reasons.

All responsiblity lies with the owner/user and not the manufacturer.

so you too only bring up motorcycles but have no mention of cars........so the same approach should be taken with cars?!?! Don't see as how your answer could be anything but yes....

I mean honestly, as I'm driving down the road in my truck I'm much more worried about grandma just crapped my pants in the 93 cutlass and soccer mom talk on the phone and drink my coffee in her navigator than a speeding motorcycle.

Yeah we got drug dealers/manufacturers, murderers, and rapists who are struggling for the same space in prison but you want put some racer kid in the pokey for 7 years for putting a chip on his bike. A lot of people here have chips on their truck to can do away with the limiter, should we put them in the pokey, too?

I had a boss one time that owned the '97 Porsche 911 Carrera and he routinely outran police in his car that had no limiter and it had not been altered.

1. Build more prisons...
2. There aren't many trucks that can out-run a police car- and, even if they could, they have to navigate the same traffic in a far-less nimble vehicle. If they can out run the cops, then that cop shouldn't be a cop.

Motorcycles can duck into an alley, side street, or what have you- that's a lot different, and- with a 140 - 150, 170 MPH top speed, even a straight line dash has a good chance of out running a cop. I'm not anti-bike, and I don't think all bike riders are criminal. But, I have seen idiots on bikes (Saw one yesterday doing a wheelie at what had to be 70 MPH down the George Bush service road, in rush hour traffic- in what little space he found...) and I've seen them in cars too. I love them for what they are, but why does it have to be so fast?

As for Porsche's, Ferrari's, Ricers... The list of people who own a Porsche or Ferrari (depending on where you are) is going to be very select. A first year detective could track them down in one day... One hour if they got a partial plate and color of the vehicle.

Ricers: I'd bet a paycheck that 95% of the Ricer's you see are all show, no go. For the 5% that really can go, and maybe (just maybe) able to out run a police car- they can't simply up & disappear like a bike can. Not in a Lime green, silver-striped, loud-piped, Civic, with a two-foot high spoiler on the trunk. Somebody's gonna hear or see that. So no, no prison as long as the cops have a greater than 20% chance at capturing them... If a helicopter has to be called...

Seven years in federal "pound-them-in-the-a--" prison.
At the very least a state-run "pound-them-in-the-a--" prison.

It's not just motorcylces and I agree with you regarding cars. I don't care if it's a Ford Windstar SE Sport doing 130 mph down the highway or a Kawi ZX14 doing a 130 mph the point is if you get caught your going to pay the price and the price will be your license and a major fine. I also believe their should be an automatic court appearance to explain the court why they should not impound your vehicle for good.

People who yap on their cell phones are dangerous too their should be laws for that too. It's too bad we have to come up with so many laws?
