Concerning Laptops(notebooks)

I am in the process of shopping for a new notebook for school. So far I have narrowed it down to either a HP, Toshiba, or possibly a Dell, but Dell is my 3rd choice. So basically Im trying to decide between HP and Toshiba, both offer exactly what I'm looking for, and are within the same price range. What I basically want is a good processor, 512mb-1gig of ram, 80gb+ hard drive, and Dvd/cd burners. Anyone here have any experience with either HP or Toshiba's, or are you all a bunch of Dell fans like everyone in my family tends to be. Sure Dell has great customer support etc...but I dunno amigos.

I've sold all kinds of computers. The best from what I have seen is Dell. My mother, father & sis all have them. Not one problem in 5 or so years. I can't say that for the HP, Toshiba, Compaq, etc. that I used to sell. The others are decent, but not quite up to par with Dell. My next computer will be Dell if they offer what I want, don't really feel like building another one.

I am getting ready to buy my second laptop, current is an HP pavilion ZT1130.

Lest see, screen is out has to be hooked up to an external monitor, battery died... so I thought.. bought new and still no go. SO has to be hooked up to power supply and external monitor. Essentially it's now just a slim line desktop. It has only been used around the house and never dropped.
My work laptop is a dell, is way over twice as old, I've beat the crap out of it carrying it all over the country side, it;s been kicked around, thrown around, and dropped numerous times, yet it still works perfectly.

Not a Dell fan but looking at reviews and my own experince, definatly no HP for me.

I may go alienware, I've never had anything of thiers yet.... If not my second choice will be a Dell.

If buying a laptop I believe the MacBook and MacBook Pro are worthy of consideration.

They have intel processors, and RUN WINDOWS NATIVELY.

(They also happen to run the MAC OS natively too)

So it's like getting two computers in one.

What's not to love?

HP's and Toshiba's consumer line suck my chocolate salty *****

Most importantly, what's your budget for said laptop? Without that we really can't help.

I have had a Dell laptop for about three years with no problems, knock on wood. I know several people who have bought Toshiba's and claim that they are the Cadillac of laptops.

I'm one of them, just not their consumer line-up. Toshiba business laptops are still hella-cool. HP biznaz laptops are just as crappy as their consumer lineup.

The BMW of laptops is IBM. Friggin' SWEET.

I have had an HP laptop for 5-6 years, other than it starting to fill up and slow down, and the autocomplete thing never working, i haven't had any trouble, it is about all i use anymore.

I will probably looking for a new one later in the year.

Well Dzervit redeemed himself.

Dell's are nice but the best was IBM. There were the best laptops I've ever worked with.

However, they have since sold off their laptops to a Chinese company and IBM no longer makes them. I can't speak to their quality since the sale but prior they were the best.

I'll give you something to redeem!

Anywho, I've got A couple new IBM (Levono) T60s right now. They are still branded IBM Thinkpads and are still bad-***. Couple changes but for the most part they are still IBM designed... a couple all-Levono laptops have trickled into the market with decent reviews. Not sure if I'd like them, but I'll prolly give them a shot and see...

My 8yr old Dell Laptop is doing just fine. I use it every night; it sits next to the couch.

The T-series and X-series do. I cannot confirm nor deny the design or performance of any other model lineup.
