just for convenience you can get a complete upper. mega, RRA, and CMMG have some great uppers but stag is more in my budget, they have 16" and 20" in right and left hand

stag is by no means a budget company, they are very good but priced competitively

I would buy replacement parts from the company that made the gun, pretty simple...

You already have 7 AR's, shouldn't we be asking you questions.

Try John Noveske. He used to be a barrel maker for PacNor bbls in Oregon. He has been a custom riflesmith for several years as well. Knows his stuff. He built my custom Remmy 30.06 and my bro's 270.

Just be sure to get a chrome lined chamber and preferably one in 5.56mm and NOT .223 Rem. You can shoot either 5.556 NATO and .223 Rem in a 5.56 chamber, not so the other way around.

No one really makes a bad AR15 per se.

Some folks don't like Colt because of their lousy (or nonexistant) civvie customer support. They also do/have done goofy things like using different size receiver take down pins than everyone else, and installing blocks in the lower receiver which limits you to a few aftermarket triggers.

You don't have to have a chrome lined barrel either, in terms of extremes, non-lined barrels are more accurate, but for just a general use rifle, get a chrome lined barrel. You may see a lot of parts marked "National Match," like bolts and bolt carriers. Don't buy into this, there's no such thing as a national match specification for AR15s, except for some competition parts like sights and complete upper receivers.

Get whoever's trigger you want. A stock GI trigger is the cheapest, but the pull sucks. Various match triggers are available, and the best in the business is built by Bill Geissele, but it's very expensive.

My gun is a Bushmaster lower with an RRA upper, set up for use as an NRA high power service rifle. Very accurate, when the nut behind the trigger does his part.

Excellent quote...I've always said my firearms are more accurate than I am. There comes a point where better equipment and parts do not matter...especially if it requires a human to operate it..

My RRA upper has been excellent, and what RRA complete rifles I've played with were top notch in fit and finish. Next complete rifle I buy will be an RRA.
