The Longest Yard...

OK, I admit I'm late to the party, and probably the only one on this site that hasn't seen this movie yet...

Being as big as I am, I always get teased... "Don't hit me", "Are you eating two sandwiches?", and at pot lucks it's, "You'd better get what you want before Hersh gets here" (Even though I'm already there...) And all that kind of sh*t...

One day we were sitting around BSing, and one of the girls said, "Damn Hersh, what size shoe do you wear?" I said, 13 sometimes 14. She said "damn". How tall are you? I said 6'2". One of the other guys was like, "Hersh, have you seen The Longest Yard? I said, no- not the remake... He said, people think you're big- you'd be down-right puny compared to some of the corn-fed bastards in that movie... Everybody cracked up laughing...

Well, I have seen bigger guys than me, in fact James, a good friend of mine, and Jeff Former Buffalo Bill, and now car salesman- are two of the few guys who made me feel small, even though I'm not much smaller than James and probably and inch or two shorter, and since he's lost weight from Football, I'm bigger, but not taller than Jeff is.

But, when I saw a snippet of The Longest Yard the other day; there are two guys in that movie that look like they'd make Hulk Hogan seem petite, and I don't mean Goldberg either...

Bob Sapp was pressing the freaking bleachers, with people on them; then there was the other really big guy (Dalph Singh) that was in the shadows, pounding his head against the wall to "relax". I don't know how strong Sapp is, but I know he's pretty strong. What's scary is, Sapp played pro football, and was relatively obscure... Makes you wonder just how big & strong the guys are that are well-known (Larry Allen, 700 lb bench press, and was the strongest man in the NFL a few years back). Kinda made Junior Seau's 550 lb bench seem like, not so big of a deal, and really made my 440 lb bench seem weak by comparison...

Jeez, there are some strong dudes out there...
Those jokers woudl put the "strong" back in strong-arm robbery.

He's a sideshow circus freak. I've seen him fight several times; and, it's sad what he does to guys that make him look retarded with their obviously superior skills. Size does matter.

Yeah, he dropped this guy in the first round, and the fat dude, was the GRAND CHAMPION Sumo Wrestler...

The time has come for Mr. Sapp to meet Mr. Sylvia....

P.S. Anything with Sandler in it is fare for 9 year olds.

I watched it today..

Funny, but not over the top Jim Carey crazy... All in all, a good movie.

The original is what it is; there's no comparison- the only similiarity is in the name...

He challenged Mike Tyson to a fight...

I've never seen Bob fight before, but seeing that before he dropped the Sumo wrestler I pictured above, he was 4 - 3 in K-1 fighting... This is not a very impressive record; but the 443 lb 6'9" sumo wrestler was very "impressed" by Sapp's strength.

So while I'm sure Iron Mike would win in a boxing match (speed, power, hit landed), tactician type stuff; I don't think he could overcome Sapp's muscle to defeat him physically.

For those of you who have seen Sapp fight, do you believe Mike Tyson (Pre-craziness) would have had a chance against Bob Sapp in a no holds barred free-for-all?

I tell you what, this is not the guy you'd want to meet in a dark alley; not without a snub-nose .38, and 6 rounds anyway...

I saw a Dutch guy fight him twice. The second time he was smart enough to hit and run during the first round. He was making Sapp look foolish and hurting him, too. Second round he got brave and decided he was man enough to stand toe to toe with the monster. He got hit so hard he went flying across the ring... Not stumbling; but, FLYING! In the air. Like I said, size matters.

How much of the size is chemically enhanced? I realize some guys are naturally monsters, but it really takes alot of work if done right. Hell, I'm 6'2" and 330, not fat but big and those guys could darn near rip my head off I'm sure. Not that I wouldn't put up a fight, but I have quick feet for a big German.

We're about the same size then...

Do you work out? I've been back in the gym for about 6 weeks now, getting my strength back... Still a long way away from the monster I once was in the gym, (440 flat bench, 505 dead lift, 550 Squat) but had to do something with my class reunion looming on the horizon... Then again, I was lifting all that weight, 90 lbs lighter than I am now.

Yeah, I was a little let-down to read that Sapp's muscles were chemically enhanced, which helped expedite his exit from the NFL. I mean, yes- taking a shot, doesn't put the muscles on you, you still have to work for them- but still, it's a bit of a let-down. Just as it was when Hulk Hogan (was rumored to have been on, and) stopped juicing in the 80's (After Lyle Alzado died) and came back much smaller than he used to be. The "26-inch pythons" were now down to "20-inch Boa Constrictors".

I understand the desire for a competitive edge, but I can never condone juicing, nor will I personally, ever hold them in as high a regard as then athlete who doesn't juice... Not even Barry Bonds... Can't deny what he's accomplished, and I don't really care what he and Raphael Palmiero do to their bodies; break records as they may, I still can't consider them the 'greatest" knowing that they juiced to get there.

I'm currently not working out, although I am on a diet change routine. Trying to limit the caloric intake. I am starting riding the bike every morning to lose some of my excess baggage as well as slinging some dumbells. I do have a good structure so once the lbs start to shed the stealth body (it's there but you can't see it) will appear.

I used to play soccer growing up. I played soccer and football in HS and got my knee torn up back when I was a junior in 86. I quit after that to concentrate on soccer. I weighed about 180 then and graduated with a heigth of 6'0". I grew up after school I guess. I'm looking to get down to about 250. Not too shabby, just alot of work to do and at 36 I ain't getting any younger!
