Tesla Roadster

The Tesla Roadster, powered by more than 6,800 lithium-ion batteries, can go zero to 60 mph in about four seconds. Top speed: 130 mph.

Yeah, and what happens if ONE of the batteries go bad? Do you wanna search through 6800 batteries to find the bad one?

years and years ago I read an article about Tesla, He put receiver anttena on light bulbs, placed them on one mountain, and put a tesla coil on another mountain and lit the light bulbs through the wireless transmission f electricity.

I could never find the article and it's been bugging me. Anyone ever heard of this?

Also, East Germany built a tesla coil (a real one, not the little jacob's ladder type), turned it on, and couldn't turn it off, the explosion leveled a few city blocks.
Anyone heard of that also?

If so, post up some links.

Tesla was THE most brilliant man born in the last 1000 years. Virtually everything you enjoy about life is because he came up with the technology. He brought us the technology for, among many other things...

3 phase AC
Turbo Charging
Cell phones
Microwave ovens

Westinghouse funded him for most anything the man would dream up. Tesla built a power supply antenna using masive amounts of copper placed in a ball at the top of a huge wooden tower. He was getting ready to demonstrate how, by using the ions in our upper atmosphere, he could power cruise ships wirelessly from thousands of miles away without electrocuting anybody in between in the process. Westinghouse then realized that without a way to meter the energy, people would be able to get "free" power using Tesla's technology. Westinghouse tossed Tesla out on his butt, and the man was basically penny-less for all his talent. Just before the first World Wars, the US Government decided to tear down his tower in the event that an enemy would capture the east coast, and use the technology against us. Actually, not tear it down, just remove the ball at the top.

Edison exploited Tesla for years, and was quite pissed about AC. Edison had spent all his time developing a useless DC transmission system. Tesla whipped up 2, 3, and 4 phase AC, and found that 3 phase was the perfect fit for inductance, and at 60 hz, could be tranmitted at high voltage for great distances with minimum losses. AC was also much safer than DC at the same voltage.

Sheesh...Apart from Christ, Tesla is my hero. I could write endlessly about his accomplishments, and his quirks. Nobody in the last 1000 years had his genius.

Tesla LINKY

Thanks Mach. I know quite a bit about Tesla (for the average person) but didn't know ALL of the story.

I read somewhere a long time ago that Westinghouse also screwed him out of his patent rights on the AC motor.

It's not a TESLA ROADSTER but it is a JOURNEY MOTORCYCLE...

30th Anniversary Motorcycle...

Journey even signed the motorcycle... unlike Tesla's car. Those cheapskates.

I swear I only knew about it because Journey's head of security sat next to my wife and I on our flight from Midway (Chicago) to Santa Anna. Pretty cool dude...

(yes, I know the Tesla Roadster is a car... not associated with the band... LOL!)

Journey was much better with Steve Perry, but they're still pretty cool...
