Self Driving Car

While it is rather cool, I'd prefer to have control of the vehicle myself, thank you very much.

I saw that article...pretty interesting but I've got a pet peeve totally unrelated to the topic but in the article.

A sat-nav system tracks its exact position with pin-point precision to within an inch
If it is pin-point precision...don't tell me its within an inch....how big is a pin with a point that is an inch in diameter....

Ok I now return you to the thread...

I'd rather a car drive itself than let a woman drive it.

"The roads would be much safer if computers controlled all cars."
Because of course, no computer has ever malfunctioned, crashed, or failed.
Give me strength.

That being said, they have talked about this for atleast 20 years. Originally the car was going to be guided using magnetic strips placed in the pavement.

The time will be coming when it will not be lawful for a human to even drive a car. On the highway, that is.

While on the interstate (or freeway for you city folks) I wouldn't mind using it occasinally, but not full time. Sometimes/often I enjoy driving. Also is this system going to be able to calculate if the vehicle is towing, what it's towing "weight", does the trailer have brakes? etc etc.
NO, it's going to assume the vehicle is 18' 10" long (or however long it is) and that it's going to stop in the average amount of time. So won't beable to use it while towing.

I look forward to this hitting the market myself. Been many times that I've wished for it. When everybody else is a sleep and I'm trying to stay awake.

Why is that driver holding his hands like that, if something is gonna happen!
He is on a circuit with no other traffic.

So what about potholes or bumps in the road? Will it swerve to miss them?

Hmm I didn't see there was a video.....

I dont know why he was holding them like that, probably intial instinct. Really hard to let go of the wheel I'd think.

Hmm 15 mph not very inpressive....

It's not all that impressive. THe text sez it can do 150 or so without driver but the video certainly doesn't show that.

Regardless . . .

If you haven't found it yet, place your cursor over the pretty blue letters that are circled in the pic below and click:

That would be go back up, click on the link, then click on the blue letters on the actual page, not on the inserted pic in this thread . . . .

I'm not sure I'd trust that.
