Thumbs down Every Single Day....

I lose more faith in people. Some worthless piece of human garbage somehow managed to get my CC# & run up a bunch of bogus charges on an online gambling website. Now I don't have a CC until I get my new one in the mail and it can take up to 3 months for the fraud prevention department to get back to me and get those charges removed.

AAANNNDDD people wonder why the words I live by are "I Don't Discriminate, I Hate EVERYBODY." People make me want to vomit...

KC-10 FE out...

yeah, they need the number on the back also. so the person must have looked at the card at some point or copied from when you entered in online.

Good point, when they get a hold of your ScreenName everything starts to crumble.

I had the same thing happen to me recently with my AMEX card. They offered to send a card out express. I told them that I rarely used the card and that was not necessary. There were two charges from Paypal on my card that is not linked to my Paypal account in the amount of $150.00 each. I'm just lucky that I check my accounts almost daily online.

Had someone hack into my CC account last year. It really does suck.

I ended up cancelling that card, getting a new one with another bank, and setting the limit at $500. I've since raised it to $1000, and that's where I'll hold. I'll most likely just get a second card from elsewhere if I ever need more credit than that, and that way, I'm not liable for so much money during that period it takes them to verify false charges if it should happen again.

What would be nice is if they let you, the victim, decide the punishment for the thief should he/she ever be caught. That way, you could feel better by taking the anger out on their hydes, and they would think twice about doing it again.

99.999999% of the time, you guys volunteer this information due to "fishing" emails.

If you ever get an email from anyone asking you to confirm your account numbers, etc., no matter how official it looks, it's a scam.

Real companies will never email you asking for info.

Sorry for your troubles KC-10 FE, that's something I worry about all the time. Fortunately (knock on wood) it hasn't happened to us. Hope it all gets straightened out for you.

I don't think its quite that high. I work tech support for an ISP and I do hear alot of those emails going around including ones that claim to be from my company so I know all about them and I also make sure I'm entering my card on a 128-bit encrypted site if I'm putting my number in online but my card number was jacked a couple months ago. Someone charged $4xx at an online computer store. I called the store doing some espionage work and managed to get a first name and province of the *** but then the agents supervisor came on and denied any more information. The bank cancelled my card and sent me a new one, but I didn't bother activating it. Now I use a different CC.

Personally i do not buy over the internet with a cc. I call their 800 number or phone # and give the cc info that way, and not very often.

I have a cross cut paper shredder and every thing goes through that..

Not necessarily. Some places ask for the security code and some don't. I had my card number taken off my check (I learned to never put your credit card number on the check, no matter what the credit card company says.). I believe it was taken off my check at the bank where I worked at the time. Either there or at one of the other check processing places it passed thru. Had a new card in a couple of days and contacted the company that made the bad charges. They reversed them immediately. Showed up on my statement a account a couple of days later.
I check my account at least once a week online. for bogus charges since then.

That sucks big time! I worry about that all the time myself. The only thing is, my card is just about full. They aren't going to get too far.

Good luck on straightening it all out.
