Nikon D50 at Costco- Cheap!
I went with the D50 back in October and absolutely love it. To speak to one person's comment about making the investment in a different media type...I think that was a valid point a couple years ago, but with high speed 2gb storage cards at less than $75 (a card that I have only filled up once, at SEMA last year), the additional cost is neglible when you are paying $600+ for the camera itself, IMO.
Patrick,
The camera came with some software called PictureProject 1.5. I've briefly messed around with it and it seems to be a decent program. However, as I'm new to photography, I really don't have much to compare it to. The camera came with a 256MB card, but on the orders of my brother, I also bought a 1GB card.

IGB memory should be all you will ever need in most cases.
I am by NO means an expert, just been into photography since 1968, been to too many more "Nikon Schools" than I can count, either attending or helping.
Listen to those who are more knowledgable than I am, but photography can be an AWESOME hobby.
The more you learn about it the more fun it can get, and diigital photography opens up whole new worlds of possibilities and potential...
Just keep it FUN! (or maybe profitable...)
