Im not a biker so I don't "know how it is", but Im pretty sure I could stay off for the incentives they have...
he could have been in a car wreck just as easily, so should he just sit at home all the time since he makes several million dollars a year? it's his choice to ride without a helmet just as it's my choice to drive without wearing a seatbelt. besides a helmet wouldnt have done him much good in that particular wreck unless it was one of those full faced ones.

I hate how people condemn others for making a personal choice. let people live their lives the way they want to.

not directed towards you fordwask.

nothing against you or your opinion by the way fordwask.
Sometimes it's in these guys contracts that they can't do things like that (motorcycles)

A few years ago Jeff Kent who at the time was playing for the Giants broke his hand and said he did it washing his truck and that he had fallen out of the bed because it was slippery. Later it was found it he did it while playing basketball which was written in his contract that he could not do. Had to pay a fine. You gotta remember these guys are multi million dollar investments as well so while they are entitled to make their own decisions, I would pretty much not want to jeopardize millions of dollars that I could loose if I made a dumb mistake like Big Ben did. He could have very easily ended his career. Kinda like Ricky Williams giving up like 4 milliion a year just so he can smoke pot. But like you said it's his choice.

oh yea by know means do I agree with his decision to ride a bike without a helmet, but I am not gonna be one who calls him an idiot or criticizes him for doing something just because most of us would not.

Helmet or not - how smart is it to even BE ON a bike at all? Didn't Terry Bradshaw suggest that Big Ben "ride it when you retire" ???

People may say that Bradshaw wasn't THAT good a NFL QB, and Terry Bradshaw isn't any rocket scientist himself, but he DOES have 4 Super Bowl rings, whether you like him or not. Who else does as a QB? 'Nuff said.

There might be better QB's around, but none of them have 4 rings.

roushlimited said that Ben could have very easily ended his career, heck, he COULD have very easily ended his LIFE!

Ben needs to think about what he is doing, maybe this will be a wake-up call for him...

Naaahhh!

If I have to listen to one more second of news media on this I am seriously going to throw my TV out the window! The local news was one thing, which got completely out of hand....but when I saw it on FOX News I really slapped my forehead...

So, for the next God knows how long I have to put up with minute by minute Big Ben updates....

So he regularly rides a Hayabusa (one of the most powerful bikes ever made) in city traffic without a helmet?

Sorry, but IMO that's stupid, even if you don't have a multi-million dollar contract at stake.

FWIW, Jeff Kent was rumored to have fallen off his Harley when he got hurt awhile back in spring training. Riding was strictly prohibited by his contract, he was a valued member of his team (Giants at the time). It did not serve either the team's or his interest to admit he was riding. I don't know when the 'basketball' theory came up, but I lived in the Bay Area at the time and never heard a peep about Kent's basketball injury. Many of the baseball writers up there essentially said from Day 1 that he fell off his motorcycle.

Oh, and Ron Gant busted his femur on a dirt bike just as he was emerging as a top baseball player.

Anyway, I love motorcylces. I've had my life saved by a helmet. If he rides again, I'll bet Big Ben wears his from now on.

Id rather see a coma-induced droolling Ben on the field then Tommy Maddox. But serious between the USA losing to the Cechs, and this, I feel cheated all around by my sports heros.

Dang 31, I figured you'd have really let me have it when the Pitts won the SB but alas it didnt really materialize.

I can just hear Ben calling signals now with no front teeth...

Fuh...fenfy-five...huf huf huf...

(For the tight panty wearers among us...I make these jokes with the understanding that he will be fine..)

I remember this guy... Jim Rome was all over him. Slipped, washing his truck, basketball, those all sound pretty familiar, don't quote me though... It's been a while.

If Ben R. had it in his contract to NOT ride a motorcycle, the Steelers ought to kick his a$$. If it wasn't, the man is free to do as he likes. Usually, on a bike, it's just the riders neck on the line, unless he was speeding, there was a photo somewhere a motorcycle punched through the door of a passenger car, all died...

That said, he's my fantasy QB, he'd better be correct come start of the season!!!!

While it's true people die in car wrecks every day; you have a much better chance of walking away from 19 out of 20 car-wrecks than you do on a bike.

Bottom line: they should have (and usually do) structure a clause in your contract, preventing that kind of "risk taking" if you are going to be what is considered a key "franchise" player.

Like my grand-daddy used to tell us kids: "A hard head makes a soft ***."

I bet nobody will have to tell his dumb **** to put on a seatbelt (in a car), a helmet (on a bike), or better yet- to stay off that bike. I like bikes too, never rode one, but have always admired them from afar. After going from a celebrity to what will look like a well-worn 60's QB, I bet Ben will have a helmet on when he gets in the shower from now on. Beign stupid is one thing, but being defiantly stupid is quite another. When you go into that realm, it's hard to feel sorry for that person. Pain is a great teacher.

That said, I'll take my chances in an SUV, with the way the idiots drive in the DFW Metroplex. I don't want to be like that kid that got killed a few years back on 75 Central Expressway, when he got thrown from his bike, and through the back window of a full sized SUV...

Needless to say, he was one dead emmer-effer. Last I heard, his parents tried to sue the driver of the SUV!?!!!

Hello!!! Your son went through the BACK GLASS, not the windshield. THat means he, not the SUV driver, had the greatest responsibility in accident avoidance. (I have friends that are insurance adjusters).

Hey leave Ricky out of this. Pot smoker or not Ricky use to be the bst back in the NFL those first two years he was with my fins. Yea Ricky ruined his HOF career but still. Big Ben could have just as easily killed himself. Oh and Ricky is ordered to pay like 6.something million over the next couple years.

TB is an IDIOT anyhow. He may have been a good football player but as a person he is an IDIOT. Him and Armondo Fitz had no business being in NASCAR. They ruined my favorite drivers career. Casey Atwood was the next Jeff Gordan. He was in the #2 car of FitzBradshaw racing and doing better,a lot better, than thier #1 driver and they fired him. After that Casey hasn't been in Nascar since. Bradshaw is also an IDIOT becuase like what one interview of Big Ben said "You aren't going to make my decisions for me if you aren't my boss or coach"(that isn't word for word but it was somewhere around those lines). I just don't like TB.

Good call Ben...

Let us know when you upgrade from soup through a straw to mashed potatoes.

I know that was mean, but dammit- I can't stand kochiness and ignorance, especially from the same person.

Then again, why to I care? Now that Bettis is gone, I'm back to hating the Steelers again.

That quote is from like a year ago when asked about not wearing a helmet when riding a bike. I mean wouldn't you get tired of everyone telling you to ride a helmet?

I never said that I liked TB, I just stated that he (and Joe Montana) has 4 Super Bowl rings.

Ben needs to think about his career a little more, hard to call signals from a hospital bed or a wheelchair, and teeth will help him e n u n c i a t e better.

Crazy to ride that kind of bike, especially w/o a helmet will all that is riding on his shoulders...
