and soldering is first on the welding test...

if you can't pass a soldering test then you better forget being a certified welder....or any welder for that matter

zap! is straight current

Can't help it. The power plant tech in me has to "straighten" this out a little.

There is DC STRAIGHT POLARITY, and DC REVERSE POLARITY. In any DC circuit, power flow is always from the negative pole to the positive pole. On a DC welding circuit, straight and reverse dictate the direction of flow by flopping the poles. Straight means that the electrons are flowing through the ground clamp, through the work, and then into the electrode holder. Reverse polarity, (more common in DC welding) has the electrons flowing from the electrode holder, through the work, and then through the grounding clamp back to the machine.

Congrats on the welder. Does it have the high freq starter?

Nevermind. I think I'm looking at it. If it's the Cyber Tig, then it does have the hot start. It looks very similar to our old Hobart. I haven't tigged with it, but it's good on the stick welding. Pretty steady after initial warm up.
Hope you enjoy it! That's a heck of a price!

How about making something so people can't steal snow plows off the front of these trucks?
