Possible AOL scam?????

I received an email about an hour ago from AOL customer support stating that the credit card company I use to pay my monthly bill declined this month's billing and that I had 24 hours to resubmit my credit card information.

As it happens, I somehow missed one invoice from the credit card company I use and I sent the check for the two months charges a few days late as well which resulted in a call from them wanting payment. The whole bill was less than $200 which included a $30 late fee (dang it).

However, the email from AOL contained not less than three spelling errors, in several places it used the term AoL as their corporate name, the link given for AOL customer support did not work and most funny of all, was they asked not only for the credit card info but also my DOB and my Social Security number.

They threatened to cancel the service within 24 hours if I did not comply, which would be a major PITA. I sent the check to the Credit Card company like 4 days ago, so it will not clear for another day or so.

I think I am getting scammed but would like the member's opinion or to hear from others with similar experiences. I get this all the time from Ebay, I am not a registered user, PayPal, nope not registered there either and a host of other obvious scams. I just would not like to have to redo my AOL subscription but I am not about to give out my DOB and Social to what seems to be a spurious site.
Thanks
Bill

No really, why would they want a ss number when it is not required to open the account in the first place?

Just delete it as it is most assuredly a scam.
