Fish tailing

Hi Guy/Gals.

I picked up my first truck yesterday and took it out for a drive. It was raining by the end of the drive. When I went around the corner it fishtailed. Was that from my speed or the tires?

The truck is a 03 F150 Supercrew. I went from driving a standard sunfire to the truck so it will take some time to get use to. I just want to be sure the tires are ok.

I can post pics of the tire tread tomorrow or the weekend.

Driving a light-azzed pickup truck is a lot different than driving a front wheel drive car. You'll get used to it.

So you think it was my speed?

On my '99, the stock tires (Generals) were very slippery in the rain. Better tires (Michelins in my case) helped a lot.

I remember back when I first got my '03 I was on my first date with my fiance, and it was raining. As I turned left through a busy stoplight intersection I spun, and ended up facing the dircion I just came from, without even trying. With wide eyes she looked at me, and said "If you were trying to impress me, you can just take me home now"... but I didn't and now I have to marry her...

Most likely this truck has a limited slip rear end and you may find that on some corners with light acceleration that the rear will lock causing it to break traction when the road is wet or snowy. I myself love when this happens and take full advantage of the opportunity to get the **** end to step out wide on those corners.

I have only pulled a closer once where she went to far. The chick that was behind me was a little surprised when we were suddenly facing each other.

Sled...

A rear wheel drive vehicle is great fun to drive.

Once you learn when to expect the rear end sliding and how to control it you can really have some fun.

My mustang was much worse than my truck and consequently a lot more fun to drive.

You could have brand new tires and be doing 15 MPH but if the conditions are right you can pull a 180 with no problem.

Have fun and be careful.

That reminds me of our first snow this year. As I was leaving school, I saw the HOTTTT new girl from Florida scraping snow off of her car. She hadn't seen snow since she was 3, so obviously she had never driven in it. I was wanting to help her, and as I pulled up next to her car, I turned the wheel all the way to the left (the side her car was on), and gunned it. My truck pivoted around until I was facing her car. She looked at me and goes, "oh my God is my car going to do that too?"

Neither.... it's called Power!

You simply over powered the traction of the tires.
