Pump shock (almost)
Pump shock (almost)
So there's this Sinclair station in my town where I get gas, it's always $0.01 cheaper for 89 oct E10, which has been running about $0.10 cheaper a gallon than 87 regular unleaded.
I went to fill up last, didn't even bother to look at the pump price until I was ready to start pumping, $2.85 a gallon. I kinda blinked since it was $2.74 the other day and hadn't noticed any high prices on the signs around town, and just figured OK here we go again until I saw the price on regular unleaded, $2.74. That kind of ticked me off, so I looked at the station across the street and saw E10 ay $2.75, so I drove across the street to fill up. That's when I noticed their E10 was $2.75 as well, so i decided to fill up with regular unleaded, because from what I've read I should get better mileage over the E10 and since there was no price advanatage what the heck.
After driving about 50 miles, I filled up again and figured my mileage. Big surpise, I got barely one more mile per gallon than I was getting with E10. What I've read said I should be getting up to 20% or more better mileage on the regular stuff so go figure.
What really surpised me was how fast E10 went up in price, figuring it was because of ethanol shortages starting to kick in, but talking to the manager whom I know at K&G, he said the price changes were because the distributors have an excess of regular unleaded stockpiled because so many people were buying E10 that they're raising the wholesale prices on E10 and dropping them slightly on regular until the supply is back down to regulasr levels.
Sound like BS to you?
