Thumbs down E85

Well, the first E85 filling station opened today here.
A mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

Instead of making the stuff cheaper, E85 is environment friendly, the price per liter is 40 eurocents more than the regular gasprice.
Converted, $9.13/US Gallon for E85 , $7.15 for 90 octane.

I wonder who is going to fill up there.

How much is the price for E85 in The States?

it depends on where in the U.S. you are located....since most of the E85 is made from grain that is grown in the Mid-West......it is typically cheaper in the Mid-West than on the coasts.....but on average....E85 is about 35% cheaper than regular gas prices (87 octane).....

...no keep in mind.....most of the companies that are producing ethanol are inccuring costs to produce 1 gal of ethanol far greater than the cost to produce 1 gal of gasoline......the only reason that it ends up being cheaper at the pump than gas is because there is a TON of government subsidies out there to generate interest and research in the ethanol industry....

.....now.....there are some companies (less than a handful) that have a technology available that will allow them to create ethanol at a much lower overhead cost than what is being incurred today.......thus securing a business plan that will hold true for them in the future once these subsidies are no longer available.....

$7.00+ per gallon USD for gasoline?!

My God, how much tax revenue do the European goverments extract from their people via the sale of gasoline?!

I've heard about taking a pound of flesh, but that's more like removing a limb!

It gets worse. That stuff kills your gas mileage too. A station around here (Casey's) runs a 10% ethanol blend and my mileage goes to hell when I run it.

ethanol does not have the same "energy content" as gasoline does.....so....a gallon of ethanol does not "burn as long" as a gallon of gasoline.....

....it is not that the ethanol makes your milage go to hell.....it is just that it is not as potent a fuel as gasoline is........

How am I being a rocket scientist by saying that it makes my mileage go to hell?

I can vouch for the 10% ethanol providing crappy gas mileage. Hell, even my friend in his 4 cylinder Kia even complained about bad gas mileage with it...
