the f650 is the one my girlie wants now, very light and low and cool. definitely a different looking bike but i wouldn't expect it to do much offroading except possibly dirt roads and such. very heavy for real dirt riding, not that some won't try it.
closer that would be a great bike for your wife, although, i would still have her start on a rebel. the real beauty of a rebel is you can buy one used, relatively inexpensive. then after she rides it for a year, you sell for the same price you paid.
a shadow 600 is also a fantastic beginner ride for women. flat foot is nice but DO NOT lower a bike to get her there. it will affect the handling, clearance and many other factors. if a bike is not low enough for her, and she has too be flat footed, find a different one. start on a rebel then move up and she should have enough confidence to ride without being absolutely flat footed.
yes lowering can be done and many do it. if you do go that route make sure you research ALL the affects.

I'll stick to my '05 Road King Classic.
PS ConnRad. You have a cool bike, but please pardon my say-so, but that sissy-bar is a real eye-sore. Is it one that you buy after-market from Honda? If so, I think the engineers should re-think that one.

She's seen the Rebel, and really likes. Haven't had a chance to get her one one, but then we're not really looking for a bike for her right now... but one of these days...
So, I finally made arrangements to go see the Spirit tonight, but just as we were hanging up I remember to ask what he wanted for it. This is a 2003 with windsheild, bags, and a bunch of chrome. I can't remember, but I "think" stock exhaust, and he claims its only got about 1000 miles on it. $6000! Sticker on a new bike $6300. He says he called the dealership, and that's what they told him it was worth, and that he could take it back, and get his $7000 back... Well, I wished him luck, and went out to dinner with the misses and some friends (who BTW, have rejoined the Ford family. They just bought a 1999 5.4L Expidition 4x4, and I got to ride in it tonight. Nice truck)
