Indy ending disapointment

What a race!
I never have been a big Andretti fan. I think there whole family acts a bit arrogant and it is fate that has kept the family out of the winners circle.

But hey, all that aside. Today seemed to be the day they finally were going to get to blow there horn.

I think the kid phuked up big time. I mean what about blocking and rubbing is racing?

Daddy stayed right behind his boy the whole race to watch out for junior and then the kid gives it away at the finish line............ WTF?

I couldn't believe how Mario kept his cool...... ether that or he was in shock like me and all the fans.

Did you notice how there were no shots of the crowd cheering?

What a crying shame. Andretti fan or not I think that they should have had it today. A first, second family finish!!!!!!! What are the odds of that happening again?

What a way to be remembered. I don't think the kid will ever forgive himself for not blocking. I would rather loose by a judgment call then give it away like he did. Young, inexperienced with no *****.
Marco could have put Hornish into the wall and let the old man have it.
Or at least make it a judgement call from upstairs.

The family with the most lead laps without a win. What a frigging legacy...... I'm still in shock.

I bet it is quiet at the Andretti house tonight. Somebody, somewhere, sometime sold there soul to the devil and put a curse on that family.......

I wish I had the money that family has spent on loosing. I could pay off Rob02 credit cards and still live in luxury until I die.....
Well, maybe 1/2 of Robs CC

What say you?

Man, I agree and disagree with your comments. I've always loved the Andretti family and you are sooo right about their history of leading more races than anyone in racing. Its the andretti curse. I think michael had it more than anyone. But Marco was a gentleman to the end. Don't forget this was his first sanctioned race!! How he drove from start to finish would determine his respect with the fans and more importantly his fellow racers. In his own words.."I could have blocked him below as he drafted and passed me, but it may have caused a crash...and I didn't want that". Man what a class act! The guy is way beyond any 19 year old. He's got his whole life ahead of him.Watch, next time he'll do the right thing. If I was his father , I'd be damned proud. Watch this kid, he is going to be a champion.

From: Colorado,
Your probably right, I will never get the chance to be in his shoes and know what his thoughts were at the time.

The whole celebration at the end just seemed like a anticlimax for all.

I think even Sam was surprised.

I'm sure the news media will be merciless as usual. I'm sure there will be more of the story getting twisted and coming out.

I hope Marco has the grit to keep the family tradition going in a winning way.
I can't believe those Andretti's can even get sponsor's with there curse and all.

I would love to drive a detuned indy car on the street or track.

If you noticed Hornish before and after he he got choked on the next to the last lap he was taking a different line using the top of the corner running down hill. This caused more MPH coming down from the corner. The kid took more of a straight line. Then drafting of course set in once he got close again. He got schooled, that is all there was to it. Yea I was cheering for Jr. also.

Where the hell did all that speed come from in the end from Hornish, if you asked me I think he sprayed it

G, I cant agree more, the Andretti's have had some bad times and fan or not you had to wish one of them the win yesterday, and it sure looked like they were getting it. Mario left his mark and will always be remembered, and although I've always liked Michael he's kind of been a waste of the family name if you know what I mean, "he's done NOTHING", (he prob wont even get to do Muffler Commercials)
Now Marco thats where I'll put my money, I do believe the family curse has skipped a generation.

All I know is if I was in his seat yesterday, and with all the loses the Family has had , and I was staring at the Finish Line as the winner of the Indy 500,
NO MF WAS GETTING PAST ME

I do have to give Hats Off to Sam though. Ok maybe he has the personality of a piece of concrete in an interview, but he got fk'd on the Fuel Hose screw up and even know he had to come back in he still managed to fight back and FINALLY get himself a win (what this his 7th attempt ???)

Again where all that power came from is a bit of mistery to me, cause at the end he fly by JR like he was standing still, then came around Marco like it was nothing.
NITROUS I TELL YA!!!! hehehehe.....

I was sitting up high in turn 3 when Hornish tried to go inside. HOLY CRAP. Flashback of Little Al and Fittipaldi. Hornish made an AWESOME pass for the finish. Rubbin ain't racin in open wheel. Marco could have blocked him more but could have taken them both out in the process. Rookie mistake, maybe. Head's up driving, absolutely.

Marco drove an awesome race. Micheal could have tried to pass him going into turn 1 but for whatever reason didn't.

Michael had NO onboard telemetry or gauges and was driving 200+ mph. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

At least the second most famous words in motorsport weren't uttered.... "And Andretti slows on the backstretch!"

I have met Micheal Andretti twice back when he ran CART and can say, the guy is a class act, and it looks like his boy will be the same.

Like some said, you don't rub or bump in open wheel. You don't have all that metal around you in a Indy car. Rubbing could mean you die.

From what I saw, I think Marco could have had the win. He said he didn't see him come up on him that fast so didn't think he could block. Rookie mistake? Yep. But, there hasn't been many rookies finish second in their first attempt.
I think Marco is going to be someone to watch.

As for the Andretti curse. That might be at Indy, but when it comes to open wheel racing he is one of the winningest drivers in the sport with a couple championships under his belt.
I just wish Cart and IRL would get back together and start running more road courses. That is when it is real racing..

Sled...
