Now its my turn to vent!

So there is nothing I hate more then sexist men...i'm by no means a woman activist...i love men haha but i'm sick of getting treated like a girly girl from dumb men. So just some background info on me...i'm a receptionist during the day but at night and on the weekends I paint houses. I mostly do it on my own, sometimes with the help of my boyfriend. The problem lies with the men at the paint stores. Every time I walk into the store they treat me like i dont know nothing. Where, i'm probly a better painter then they even wish they could be! So I call today to order paint for a house i'm painting tomorrow and they just question me on everything I say to them...asking me if i'm picking up paint for my boyfriend. Just makes me mad that because i'm a young small girl they think I cant paint by myself! Anyways..just had to vent. Do any guys treat other girls stereotypically like this or any girls have this problem!!?

When they start that kind of crap with me, my trick is to be bitchy and the guys don't question sh$t. I figure they are thinking if I do not know what I am talking about or doing, then that is MY problem. You know how men can't stand bitchy women....lol.

If 75% of the women in the paint shop are A; you treat 100% of the women that way. You're not psychic.

Oh I'm sorry; You're So Abused!

Yes, I was on the couch last night

You guys are LAME

And Alex, the reason you get treated like that is because most young girls don't know how to paint, and when they do, chances are they order too much, too little, not the right stuff, etc. If you keep using the same paint shop, they should get to know you and treat you better as time goes on.

If you can tell me how this relates to this thread, I'd be mighty impressed. She said they treated her like an idiot, they weren't trying to exchange paint for sexual favors

I was thinking the same thing.

Yeah I get treated the same way when I am looking around an auto parts department/store. Best recourse I have found is to show them just how much I know by asking them for something with extreme detail as to the exact part I am looking for (they know you're not asking for you "guy" if you're not reading it off a piece of paper & sound very confident in yourself.

My suggestion to you: you said they ask you all types of questions when you call in an order, after the first 1 (or 2 depending on your mood) tell them if I wanted such & such I would have asked for such & such & if you want my business you'll take my order like you're supposed to & not treat me like a barbie doll.

Just don't take things so seriously, I think the paint guys are in their own special way trying to flirt with you. But of course that doesn't make it right. I tell my soon to be 17 year old daughter not to worry with stuff like that as it isn't worth the hassle to get all irritated about. Be bigger than they are. Boys will be boys, and someday they will grow up, no matter how old they are presently .
