I Have a Toshiba laptop atm its little over 3 years old and is starting to have problems (battery ,and running hotter than it has in the past)

Is Dell the laptop to look at ? or are there others i should consider

 

Toshiba and Dell make good laptops.

 

Funny enough I just bought a Dell laptop a month or two ago to replace my Toshiba one. So far its pretty decent.

I bought a Sony Vaio after owning a Dell. I am very happy with the Sony so far after about 3 months of using it. I would easily buy either brand again without worry.

 

FWIW..I am on my 6th Dell. I have never had a problem with any of them, ever. I don't work for Dell, and I really don't care as I get them for work, but have had very good luck with them.

The others mentioned Toshiba, IBM Thinkpad, Sony Vaio, (which I think is cool), are very good as well.

Sager makes the best laptops. Not the cheapest, but the best for the money.

 

I've bought two refurbished Dell laptops and they have been nothing but awesome computers. I gave one to my 4yr old niece and that thing holds up to her abuse very well. I will most likely order my next one new from Dell.

 

I'm on a dell laptop now. Mines alittle older, an inspiron 8200. I have had three dell desktops, the latest of which is an XPS system (badazz) I don't have a single complaint, except for the CSR's are always indian and speak poor english.

 

My Dell is a POS!!!!!

everything that could ever go wrong with a computer, mine as had and still has! Freeken 3K computer I paid for and nothing works!

try calling Dell one day, you will be on there for 8 hours trying to find a person that speaks English!

The only one that I have heard and had much problems with is Toshiba. They're fine if they work, but if you do have problems it can be a nightmare. If you're looking for a good budget machine in the $7-800 range Acer has some great AMD Turion machines. Was looking at one a while back that was $750 at Circuit City. Gig of ram and an 80 gig hard drive. Had a Redeon 200M video card in it.

Stay away from anything that say Sempron or Celeron in the proessor type. Intel Core Duo is the high performance processors right now.

Edit: Dell probably has the best reputation as far as laptops, but you usually pay a little extra for it.

 

The Toshibas that I owned when I was in college and a few years after college held up pretty good. I had used the 2nd one in class everyday and while traveling prior to selling it to a co-worker at my last job. At my last job, I managed to crash two IBM Thinkpad A31's and a T40 in about a 2 month period. They just don't seem to be able to handle the daily tasks of a Controls Engineer in a frame welding environment in my opinion.

 

Ive heard that Dell isnt as good as it used to be. Lots of hard drive problems. My buddy has a Dell and had to have the HD fixed after having it for less than a month.

Ive heard that Toshiba and Sony are good, but Sony will cost you a little bit more. I will be getting a Toshiba sometime soon.

Good luck finding people that speak English with Dell. They outsource tech support to India or something. But Im sure most companies do that.

 

Best of both worlds. It runs BOTH Mac OSX AND Windows XP (and that's not in emulation . . .it will run the real thing).

What's not to like?
