My parents got a new computer. We have a router etc. that goes to my computer and theirs. Their old computer connects to the internet just fine, the new one wont connect for anything. We have run all the connection wizards etc, but still no connection. In the device manager it shows the ethernet card as working properly and connected. Any ideas on why it wont connect? (I have tried all the simple stuff such as resetting both comp and router, and checked the drivers).

At the prompt type ipconfig and report back the IP address.

 

Just to be safe, go 'ipconfig /all' and paste that into your post.

Also handy so we don't have to ask again is a simple 'route print' and paste that as well.

No personal info is revealed by performing said tasks, so just do it...

 

Better yet....reboot the network.

~shut down the new PC.
~unplug the router from the power source.
~reboot the modem (cable/DSL)
~after the modem is back up, plug in your router.
~boot PC, you'll pull an IP from the router.

Done.
