GOOD NEWS! ~Way to go me!~

Just had to share...

Last night I got my 30 day chip from AA!

I am also celebrating 1 year, 1 month and 16 days without a cigarette (after 10 years of smoking).

I am not trying to quit drinking, I am trying to prove to myself that I CAN STOP...it had me worried for a while, and quite frankly, still does. Group "therapy" helps a lot.

Anywho, just wanted to share my happiness! I think I am going to try one more month before I have a drink. I just like to drink! God help me!

Congradulations!!!!

I never was a big drinker, but I cannot seem to kick the cigs... I keep saying that when I'm mentally ready to I'll quit, but I know that thinking like that I never will....Oh, crap just thinking about quiting makes me want to

I hear you! I quit cold turkey, and to me, it was easier than trying to replace cigs with gum or suckers. I just made up my mind when I got out of rookie school that I wasn't going to smoke anymore. Lord knows there are enough hazards out there for me without me putting that final nail in the ol' pine box.

Smoked for a while a long time ago, what a PITA.

Now drinking, I know how you feel, I love the taste, not after the feeling. I have to be careful or I could easily become an alchy. I used to call a few people or meet up with them and say let's go for a beer or 2 or 10, it would usually end up being 4-6 hours later and somewhere in the neigborhood of 20 plus. Go for breakfast, go home clean up sleep a couple of hours and off to work, then do it again. Discovered it was not an economically feasible life of 40 hours a week work and 40 hours a week in the bar.

Congrats on your long run, I hope you can keep it up or are able to control it, and hopefully be able to tell if or when it becomes a problem.

Congrats

I never smoked much but I have not wanted a cig in over a year. I do however love to drink. I try to be careful and control the spirits not let the spirits control me. For me part of this includes not ever drinking when I feel upset or angry. I know how habit forming alcohol can be and avoid using it as an escape mechanism. Best of luck to you in your quest.

Joe

Soooooo... what can you get when you cash in that chip? A 6-pack, case... pint of your fav hard stuff? I get those little wooden chips from my local pub all the time... I get free drinks with 'em.

Non-alcoholic- to you kid!

I agree....but once you prove it to yourself I certainly hope you don't go overboard....assuming you can stop at any point.

Thanks for the support and well wishes everyone.

Hey Brew, I meant to tell you that after Hurricane Katrina, I somewhat adopted a dog. My parents and one of my sisters live in Gulfport, Mississippi. I was down there, and about 10 days after the storm hit, a yellow lab wobbled up to my dad's office (we were staying in a pop up camper in the parking lot). Anyway, he had broken most of his teeth off, and his front paws were bleeding from his nails...which were also broken. The poor thing had chewed and clawed his way out of something. Anyway, I still have him. I named him Cane...for HurriCANE. He's the sweetest dog. The area surrounding my dad's office is leveled, so the best I can assume is that his owners have either picked up and moved, or they are dead.

I'll try to post some pics later. I just thought it was cool...two yellow labs...Caine and Cane...anyway, I guess I forgot that your pups name was Caine when I named this one.
