Need Japanese car help please...
My wife's friend has a '97 Maxima that makes a kind of grinding sound from the right rear wheel. I figured it was a bearing...However, after looking at the Autozone website, it doesn't appear to habe bearings in the back???
Anyone have any ideas??? I have little expirience with Jap cars, but can work on anything, if I have the parts...

It's a bad bearing sound, I just can't find out if there's a bearing in there...I would think that there would have to be, but none of the websites show any rear bearings as available parts... Maybe it's a dealer part, but they usually say that.
According to a VERY reliable source, yes there is a bearing in there. There would almost have to be, but yes its there. It appears to be just like pulling the front hub of a rear wheel drive car... Just pull the dust cap, and cotter...
SInce it is a front wheel drive and the back wheels turn, I would have to say "it does have bearings". The bearings are probably in the drums or rotors. You can check them after you remove the drum/rotor from the spindle.

Hey, bro, I'm not trying to get into any religious, moral, or political implications of the type of car that someone else drives. I'm trying to help out a lady who's in a very tight spot, and can't afford to take it to a mechanic. I just happen to own not just one, but three, yes three, American made vehicles. And there are no Japanese vehicles in my garage or my name...
So lay off with the BS, and thank you for those that are trying to help.

Some of the people on this site are proof that "retards" can and do breed.
Now, back to the subject at hand…….
If I were to guess, the rear hub bearing is probably serviced as an assembly in that thing. In that you buy the hub (with the wheel studs and all), remove the center spindle nut, slide or hammer the old off, slide the new one on, new nut (I don't like reusing important fasteners like spindle nuts) and away you go.
