I figured around $400-$500 but a $599 model!!!

I havent owned a PS2 or Xbox (any thing). Still have the Nintendo Gamecube and it has met my limited gaming needs and my kids love it.

The Revolution is the only next generation console I'm really excited about.

I'd figured on buying a PS3 this time around but dang that is pretty expensive....

Might get put on the back burner.

Good Find Jamz

yeah...I was just reading that....the "full version" is $600.......

...personally....I believe that the PS3 will be the cause of the PS demise.....I do not beleive that the movie industry will support Blue-Ray....so, that feature will be "useless" and I have a hard time believing that parents will be able to afford the $600 price tag and the $$ for the games/accessories.....especially when the 360 is significantly cheaper.....

My prediction is that the PS3 is the new NeoGeo......

I agree Bill.

That's an outrageous price for a console. I have a feeling that sales wont do so well, and the price will drop fairly quickly. Hopefully the word will get back to the "big shots" at Sony and they will un-*** themselves.

eh....wishful thinking?

I don't know if the Blu-Ray will do them in or not. Sure it may end up being the betamax of hi-def DVDs but if the system is great it will still be successful. The PS name brand has a tremendous fan base.

I do think it is a mistake to make a console that expensive though.

They can't drop too fast....that drive is EXPENSIVE

The sales of the movies for their handheld thingie is very low.
I read an article somewhere that thought Microsoft might buy up Sony when the PS line fails.

What funny is the demise of that horrid PSP disc format that bombed for movies... whatever it was called. Studios said "F that" and don't release movies for the PSP anymore. I think the same may happen to BlueRay... HD DVD is hitting stores first and will prolly gain wide acceptance.

On another rant, I thought this Cell processor was supposed to be dirt cheap?!!! WTF? Memory is dirt cheap, graphics cards can be a bit pricey but to tally up a $500-$600 price tag is just crazy. It had better totally crush the 360 in the graphics department to warrent that price...

I think it is the drive that is jacking up the costs.

Either way it is too expensive

I thought the PSP was going to give the DS a run but apparently not

Well, if the PS3 tanks because of price that would give MS a huge edge in market share. That will probably in turn lessen the quality of consoles in general. Maybe not, but I wouldn't doubt it happening. Would be good news for the PC gaming industry which has been somewhat neglected since it's a much more expensive hobby to maintain. I'm hoping to hold off on building another machine for another year. That'll be another $1000 Too bad I can't stand console play.

I'll stick with the Revolution when it comes out....

Graphics can only get so good....Nintendo is trying something different and I hope it works. (that and the 120+ gamecube games that my kid has will work in the new system )
