blah this is going to suck...

well, with gas prices going as high as 3bucks here in florida...and with the amount of driving that i do...

i am going to have to start looking at trading my truck (gawd i lov her!) up for a small economy-mid size car.

i know a few here have done it already and would like some advice, i have my truck on a signature loan from the bank and owe roughly 17k on it...

if i had my choice of smaller car, i was thinking of a chrysler sebring (i've rented a few during some road trips and i've come to like them from all the other vehicles).

what route should i go to trade my vehicle, would i go to my bank first? would i go to like carmax and see what they would offer me for my truck. any advice would be welcomed. thank you, eventually maybe even when they release the hybrid f150s i'll climb back in a truck...its that i just dont get paid enough to handle all my current expenses and i need to start thinking about my future. thank you all for the help!

~jose c. rodriguez aka qiterplop aka nytekrawlerr...much love to yall!

ps. omfgffs i hate gas!

You could do what my brother did. As much as he loved the truck his gas $
was making him frustrated too. He owed 11k on his '04 f-150 FX-4 5.4 and
sold it privately for 17k, which allowed him to pay off his loan and he put
himself into a little rice burner...

Your rig being an '05 maybe you could get more for it than you owe....

I don't understand.

why on earth would you sell your vehicle, buy a new one (which means spending several THOUSAND DOLLARS more) only to get better fuel mileage when we are talking about saving PENNIES in fuel mileage.

the way i figure things, i dont believe that we will ever see gas dropping below 2$ which means, that for the 50-60 im spending every 5 days...just isnt worth it.

i mean if it were a guarantee thing that gas would drop were it would not be a money sink for me, then yeah i would just wait it out with a small daily driver. but i dont believe it will, i think that the lost it will ever get is back down to 2.50...which is still eating me finicially.

on top of this matter, that would be an additional vehicle added to my insurance policy...which is currently at 1k every 6 months.

so, i think, if i drop the truck for 17k...pay the differance, buy something for about 13-15k...that is more like 30-35 every 6-7 days, then in the long run, i will be better off.

i do understand that it will take a long time for me to see the true benefits of this procedure, but i do believe that in the long run, it will be finicially sound.

i mean, in all honesty, i made a mistake to begin with, as much as i love my truck, it still is a huge money sink for me. its hard when i pay 325 (trk paymnt) + 240 (gas money 60 * 4wks), thats roughly 570 bucks a month on a vehicle.

i just cant afford it, not any more....i which i could, but i cant.

i feel, that if i was paying 120 a month on gas, than i wouldnt be so bad off...i would still have 120 to pay for other things, like maxed out credit card lol, as well as school tution, maybe even save up that money and collect some interest, so that after im done with school and clear my c.c. i can put it down for a hybrid f150 or something.

question jztbcz; what condition is was your bro's truck in when he sold it? mine has a few scratches here and there, plus the bed has been used alot since i got it, and it has some paint splatter under the vehicle when i ran over a stupid tin can of oil based paint in the early hours of the morning going to work.

...life sucks...hah

For some reason, these guys that are spending 2 or 3 thou on an economy car, don't seem to realize how much gas that would buy.

I just don't get it.

If the economy car was free, or you trade/sell your truck and come out even, or ahead, then yeah, that's makes sense.

But spending 3K to save 75 bucks a week?

I don't get it. :o

I would love to be able to drop 2-3K on my Torino, get it running & use that as a daily driver but who knows what the milage is on that thing. Oh yeah but then I'd have to plate & insure it.

break it down for me. did you buy a second car?
how much was it?
did you insure a second car?howmuch?

so your saving about $900 a year but how much did you spend on the second car?

here's a little perspective not ment to pis anyone off.

ok let say you spent about $5000 to buy, insure and plate this car for the 1st year.

say you get about 15mpg in the truck 30mpg in the car(being generous).

using 300 miles a week as a reference.

car would use 10 gallons
truck 20 gallons

useing $3 a gallon as a ref.
car would use $30 a week
truck $60

savings $30 a week now divide $5000(cost of car, plate and insurance) by $30(weekly gas savings)

it would take you 166 weeks to break even or just about 3 years and 2 1/2 months

oh yeah thats not even including the cost of oil changes and maintnance for both vehicles. plate and insurance everyyear and not even factoring the times you would drive your truck.

yeah your really saving some money there.

Yeah! You tell 'em!
But seriously, you've got a great point. Unless you drive an ungodly amount of miles or get a car that totally trumps your truck's MPG, it's gonna take a while to realize any real savings.

I guess it just depends on what you spend on the car. For me, I bought a 93 Festiva, paid $250 for it, 75 to get it plated and such, and that damn thing gets 40 mpg. But seriously, if I didn't find a car for so cheap, I would have just driven my truck as usual or swapped and would have driven my wifes car.

Yo Q.....what's up man? Long time.

Seriously. Everyone is right. Of course you can do anything you'd like, we are just trying to help.

I have seen threads like this in the past. In a few weeks, months or whatever the price of gas stables out and some of the ones that got rid of their trucks, end up regretting it.

I don't wanna see you in that boat bro....know what I mean?

I hope you don't meet an F-150 in an intersection.

I know who would win that altercation......and it ain't pretty.
