It's sad, too, because I remember when they had some really good teams back in the day! I lived in KC for a few years back in the early 90's and always enjoyed heading out to Kaufman Stadium for a night at the park. That was the era when it looked as if they might come around again, with players like Jermaine Dye, Bob Hamlin, Mark Byrd, etc.
I still enjoy catching a game when I'm in town for business, but my God, talk about putting an AWFUL product on the field....
At least not in the next few years. David Glass (owner) and company are fixed on this "Youth Movement" and bringing in tons of AAA talent in order to develop them. Well it's turned out to be nothing more than a disaster. Any good player we have had gets traded off for this younger talent. For instance we got rid of Carlos Beltran of all people a few years ago. The only bats we have on the team are Reggie Sanders and Mike Sweeney. And Mike is only a DH now, he can't field worth a crap and is always hurt. Don't even get me started on the pitching "talent."
It doesn't help that Mr. Glass allegedly has no participation whatsoever in his team. I believe he is one of the Wal-Mart CEOs down in Arkansas and is more interested in that corporate mongreal and making money than he is producing a winning product on the field.
We did get our stadium renovations approved the beginning of April, so maybe that would entice some talent. But that's probably wishful thinking. On the other hand, the Royals were Cactus League champs in spring training!
But I really do enjoy going out to the K and catching a game, it really is a great and beautiful stadium, regardless of how the Royals play.

Sad day for me guys. Our franchise guy, Derrek Lee, is out for 8-10 weeks with two broken bones in his right arm. The guy's only missed 20 games TOTAL in the past six years, and never been on the DL in his career. Top it off, he just signed a 5-yr/$65 million contract, less than two weeks ago. There has to be some irony in there somewhere.
On the bright side, they're going to be calling up a minor leaguer. Ryan Theriot, whom I think they should call up, can gain valuable experience in the infield because of this.

Yay Royals.

I can now say the Royals have won a game on the road. After a 12 game losing streak on the road, the Royals finally got one from the Twins last night. Just one shy of the MLB record on the road losing streak.
Sweeney is on the DL, again, for back problems.
6-20, yay Royals.
