Boooo for the Tax Man...

I got a shade over $1400.00 back this year, which is substantially higher than what I am used to. My refund this year was boosted by the fact that Texas residents (as well as residents from other states that have no state income tax) were able to deduct any sales tax paid during the year from their Federal returns. My normal purchases, combined with the fact that I purchased (2) new vehicles in 2005, really upped my refund!
This money was originally earmarked to be slid directly into my "Mustang Fund" -- sweet! But then my wife had our baby (2) weeks early, which means her paid maternity leave will not carry her through to her summer break (she's a teacher), which means that $1400.00 will now just cover her (2) weeks of unpaid leave. So much for a $1400.00 bonus to the Mustang Fund!
But I'm going to make it up. With the baby here, I now have some huge additional deductions that should add-up to about a $3000.00 lower tax bill in 2006. I have not changed my witholdings to account for this new tax circumstance and plan to just "tough it out" for the remainder of 2006 on a fairly frugal budget. By doing so, I figure next spring I should be receiving a check from Uncle Sam that's somewhere in the $3500.00 range -- all of which will be slid back into said Mustang Fund!
At least that is my plan......
