The idea is to make it easier to go to Smeezy's house and get it for free with no trouble

Use WPA.
Don't broadcast your SSID.
Force all computers to register a MAC address to gain access to the network.
Check your broadcast coverage outside your house, and if possible, locate your router/access point to maximize wireless inside the house but minimize signal outside the house, esp. to places where people might sit to swipe your signal (e.g., the street).
With just a bit of precaution, you can make it much more difficult for anyone to get onto your network.
Good luck!

Name the SSID something like, trojan, or virus, or hackzone, spyware network.. etc, etc, etc....
If you have dumb, computer illiterate neighbors. Then if they do happen to stumble onto your signal, they wont even think about trying to get on your network. They'll probably try everything they can to get it off thier computer, maybe/hopefully even calling thier computer guy to come get this virus off thier computer.

i know if i saw that show up on my computer i would be calling tech support immediately.
Being a wireless newb (for the most part) modified my wireless a bit. I've been using WEP 128 and I just disabled my SSID. I've got two neighbors within range. Both are cool, one neighbor I doubt knows what wireless networking is and the other has a completely open wireless network that I could hook up too and mooch off of if I wanted. I think he's got a cable modem, but at 8mbit I don't really need more bandwidth. I mean, how much adult oriented material does one need
Anyway, should that limit the ability for someone to camp my signal? If I see anyone hanging out in front of my house I call the cops to chase em off (did that once), and I usually unplug my wireles access point during the week anyway since my wife doesn't use it but on the weekends. I had the house built with cat5e throughout, so everything else is hardwired.
