I wish more taxpayers would look at things like this prior to elections. I take that into consideration when voting for someone: you spend my money poorly, then you don't get to take my money in the form of a salary anymore, or represent me. Unfortunately, until the status quo changes, pork will be something that is always around.

The scale or 'big picture' has to be considered.
The list looks bad when viewed alone.
$13,500,000 for the International Fund for Ireland, which helped finance the World Toilet Summit
$6,435,000 for wood utilization research
$1,000,000 for the Waterfree Urinal Conservation Initiative
$500,000 for the Sparta Teapot Museum in Sparta, N.C.
$550,000 for the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Wash.
$500,000 for the Arctic Winter Games in Alaska
$250,000 for the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa
$234,000 for the National Wild Turkey Federation
$100,000 for the Richard Steele Boxing Club in Henderson, Nev.
It adds up to a little over 23 million.
That is the annual allocation.
We spend that every two hours in Iraq.
If we stay focused on $234,000 per year for the National Wild Turkey Federation rather than $500,000 per hour on the war, then it is money well spent.
The math of it is mind boggling.
If Rumsfeld advised the President to bring the troops home one day early, just one day, irregardless of whether they are there 3 years or 10,
that one day would Fully Fund all of the projects above, for the next 12 years.
Raoul,
I do agree with the big picture bit, but still 234,000 for the Nat'l Wild Turkey Foundation??? OK. I don't follow your math though. 23 million x 12 years = 276 million. $500,000/hr x 24 hours = 12 million. That is not near enough to fund all of the projects for 12 years.

edit:
Found my error
$500,000 per hour is incorrect.
It's $10 million per hour.
$240 million per day.
$87 billion per year.
So the last part was right, the $500,000 per hour was wrong.
If it was only 500,000 per hour with 130,000 troops there that would only be $3.85 per hr per troop.
And it wouldn't leave a red cent for haliburton and you know Cheney would stand for that.
He's got a shotgun.
Damn, this is like my third edit....
12 years is incorrect also, it would only be 10 years.
