Baaa, a nice little screamin diesel is what they need to work on.

they are.

There is a lot of information online being posted by the union local for the Cleveland casting plant.

News of both engines was leaked to the 'net a few months back.

Latest news is that a 3.6 Land Rover diesel will be in F150s for a couple of years until the Ford designed 4.4 is finished.

I guess the 6.2 would be nice to have as an option, but I'd really rather have the small diesel v8

when gas goes up to $3.50/gallon, I think the diesel will win over the 6.2

I guess I'm one of the few that's alright with the 5.4 3V. I dunno about the 6.2, maybe with like 3.55 gear and that new 5 speed auto that's supposed to be coming along, it'll help maximize it's fuel mileage.

The small diesel sounds like a neat motor though. I hope it has pilot injection - all that diesel clatter I could deal with in a Superduty, not in an F150 on a daily basis though.

Why does it take ford so long to get things out the door? They should have had this engine in the F150 for 2006.

Hell even 07. They are going to be 2 years behind. They never should have shelved it. Just keep fine tuning it and holding it back as long as they could and then drop it. That way all the bugs would be worked out of it by now. They are slowly pulling their heads outta there butts.

A 5 speed auto would be NICE. I was thinking about one the other day, but I digress.

When everyone rolls over to diesel, as much as I like it, it too will go to $3.50+ a gallon. Anyone remember when no one had diesel truck except farmers and people who hauled stuff? It was always cheaper than gas. Now look at it.

At most places here Diesel is on average .10-.20 more than regular unleaded. It's about 2.69 a gal here and regular is about 2.50 a gal. Plus, there is only 1 grade for diesel unlike several for unleaded so people will be forced to pay what ever the price is. They can't choose regular over the supreme to save a few cents.

True Diesels may get better gas mileage than with an identical engine using unleaded, but will that few extra miles make a difference. I know they have better power and I would love to have one, but in the end, I don't know how it would work out.

There are different grades of diesel. Winter and Summer blend. The reason you don't see multiple blends offered is because they only sell one at a time. Winter is thinner, but doesn't produce nearly the power as summer blend. But summer blend will turn to gel in cold conditions.

Secondly, yes the diesel will provide enough savings in the life of the vehicle to pay for the difference in fuel and the difference in engine cost. For example my dad has a 2002 F350 screw lariat 4X4 with the 7.3 powerstroke. He does a combination of city and highway driving and gets around 15 mpg. Pure highway, I think he gets 17+. This engine doesn't get nearly the mpg as the 6.0 powerstroke. The most similar gas engine would have to be the triton V10, which you won't see 15 mpg even on the highway on a good day. Dad did the calculations for how much he drives (somewhere around 15,000/year I'd guess) and he says he'll pay for the diesel in fuel savings somewhere around the 5-6 year point.

Pure BUNK!!

Most V10s can easily get 15MPG on the highway. Just like with the diesel, it all depends on how you drive. Unfortunately, the V10 is just so much fun to drive it's tough to keep your foot out of the throttle!

I don't want to get into a gas vs diesel debate, but with the diesel's higher fuel & maintenance costs (along with all the 6.0L problems), we're seeing more former PSD owners now driving V10s.
