dvd decoder?

dvd decoder?

i have loaded the windows xp pro corp version and have updated to windows media player 10. everytime i start to play a dvd i get a message asking for a decoder? i tried using the original from my window 98se application disc but won't work.....any ideas on a free decoder? thanks....jim

i looked at that and it wants you to download some sort of program to except advertising????? so i went here

VLC Player
Media Player Classic
Intervideo WinDVD 7
DVD Shrink (also backs up DVDs)

Any of those are good choices for DVD media players. VLC, MPC and DVD Shrink are all free.

what i downloaded gives me a dvd player and not just letting the wmp10 work.....? i can play dvd copies someone would send off a camera etc....i just can't get a dvd like topgun to play. keeps saying digital copyright protection blah blah.....when i do the self help i get to where i need some sort of decoder????? thats why i did the above download. all i want is wmp10 to work for my needs. don't do alot, just want it there when i want it. thanks.

For wmp10 to play it, you either have to pay for the codec, or get a pirated version.
