Well i test drove it this morning and its is a slug compared to my 97. It has no pickup but man it drove very nice. It is also much quieter than my 97 and smoother ride. i did however find a good size dent in the tailgate (you can see it in the pics). I did like it but i think i will continue looking for a 5.4 XLT. They also tried like hell to get me to leaser a new one prices oer month were hard to beat for a new truck 179.00 a month for 27 mnths for a 06 xlt buty i am not into leasing. I will wait and find just what i want and then i will just buy it...

I was going to trade in my truck today for an 04 Lincoln LS with 12,000 miles on it. The car was going for $21,000.

They wanted to give me #3,000 for my truck. I laughed at them and left.

As I was on my way out the door, I could hear the guy tell me "But, we can drop the price of the LS to 19,000".....(basically telling me that they could give me 5K for my truck) - that's some bull.

seats suck..My drivers seat seam and foam came apart...Fixed under warenty....how ever you will have more leg room on the XL or STX on my XLT door arm rest is longer for the power window/mirror switchs, My knee hits the the door arm rest...I'm 6ft 4 230 Lbs....fabric and carpet are substandard on my XLT, so a XL or STX is the better buy in my opion..

BuckDropper,

What's the highest per month your willing to pay for a truck?

Sorry to hear things didn't go as well as you expected with the 04 STX, but at least you got to test drive it and you found out that you would like the 5.4 instead of the 4.6 which is a wise move. Both engines get about the same gas mileage anyway, so my as well move to the 5.4 V-8.

I had the same problem with a salesman trying to talk me into leasing, he just couldn't take no for an answer about me wanting to "BUY" a truck, not lease one. I think salesman like people to lease so they can come back every 3 years or so and lease another truck, unlike people who buy them, they sometimes don't come back for 10 or more years. I was told by a salesman they hate when people buy a truck VS leasing. I'm not into leasing and never will just lease a truck. I like to have the feeling I own the truck, not just borrowing it.

I think on the other hand with you, that you will be really happy if you can find an XLT with a 5.4 V-8 in it. This way you can at least have A lot of power options in the cab VS what the STX has to offer.

If money isn't to tight, see if you can get an 05 model, Ford fixed a lot of the bugs for the 05 year VS what the 04's had.

good luck to you and hope you find the truck your looking for!!

Hey Buck, I see that you made a trip to West Herr in Amherst....

What salesman are you dealing with?

I used to work there back in the mid 90's. Go see Joe Mulcahy, he will not do you wrong. Have him search for a 5.4 truck, he will find one for you no problem. Tell him that Joe M. the lot man from about 9 years ago sent ya!

Yes..Dealers love to steer you into leases. Leasing is great for some but not for me.

I know we wouldnt give that much at the dealer where I work. Anyway, I think you should get it. It looks like a nice truck, and it is always nice to have the 4x4 too. Go for it!

That seems a bit steep, I got my 05 STX Flareside for 23k out the door.

I said RETAIL, as in MSRP... not selling price. The difference is that MSRP is just north of $30k for a 4x4 STX in the 2006MY. I didnt factor in rebates. I could sell one now for $24,072.00. Brand new '06...

How did you get yours for $23k? Is it a 4x4 as well? You got a GREAT deal.

No, I am not a 4x4, just a flareside. I am friends with the president of Ford. I didn't give any $ down and walked out with her, tax, tag, title for 23k. I dont even remeber what I paid, I think it was in the teens, like 19ish.

$23,828.00 for the same truck as yours, if it was purchased from me. And you don't even need to be friends with anyone. Nonetheless, great deal you got there.
