Random stupid computer question
Random stupid computer question
So my girlfriends PC is very very old. She needs a new one.
1. She doesn't use it for anything major; WWW, Word, possibly 3d Home builder software but she could also do that on my machine
2. I want to buy something used; aka affordable.
What's the minimum I should look at?
PIII 1GHZ? Is that too slow...like am I being Uber cheep?

Man, I think it would be tough to go wrong with a Dell... the sell complete systems for pretty freaking cheap... plus.. we use dell where I work now, and used them in the military... the seem to be able to take a bigger beating than other computers... I bought my mother in law one for like 400 bucks (or cheaper if you don't need a monitor and stuff) cause that's about all she does with hers and she loves it... plus they have decent support and stuff... I have a HP now but wish I would have bought one... trust me.. if 29 retarted squids can't tear one up... your girlfriend won't be able too...
Dang man I've got a couple of those just hanging around I could send you one o f those if they shipping wasnt so much.
As long as you avoid celerons and AMD's version you should be fine...6 - 7 hundred.

I'll say the exact opposite about dell
Yes they are cheap.
No they don't last.
Dell uses old parts in their "new" machines so they can clear out their stock.
99% of their tech support hardly speaks a word of english (that you can understand)
Their monitors fade quickly
They break unexpectedly
But they're cheap.
Don't waste your money on a PIII though or you'll be wasting money again in a few months tops for a new machine. Get a P4 or better yet an AMD chip, you'll be happier in the long run.

I've had nothing but great experiences with their servers, optiplex and precision lines.
