None of the stuff I read knew how it was able to detect money (there are various theories) but it can. Seems that HP has implemented it in their printers and soon all scanners will be able to detect money and won't scan it,
It's interesting, although it brings up a lot of questions about what's next in terms of limitations.

Update: To avoid any possibility of trouble with the Secret Service, I have replaced the pic of the bill with an oversized close up of only a small section of it and blurred the portion of the serial number, thereby conforming to rules set forth by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. It still gives you an idea of the colour of the new bill.

Photoshop has some sort of optical recognition code that can identify money! How cool is that?!?!?! Especially since this bill just came out last week.
I'm impressed.
So I decided to scan one to show those of you who haven't seen it:
