Unhappy Tailgate keyed, update...

Well, I know it's not perfect, but I think I'll keep myself from spending more of my hard earned money to fix some one else's, shall we say, creativity?? Some rubbing compound, some other magic stuff, and a lot of elbow grease later...

Before...

After...

Don't get me wrong, I ever catch someone doing this to my truck, they will see how well those General tires don't hook up right away as I do a burn out on their forehead...

I guess I have an "Urban Jungle Battle Scar" now.

My girlfriend's Scion has a scratch I want to fix up. Aside from the compound, what else did you use? I've done some major damage repair on my F150 but small scratches are another story....I dont want to take the time to paint, touchup, sand, touchup, sand, scratch remove, polish.....

that sucks... at least it isn't as noticable now.

I'll snap a pic of my friends tailgate... someone backed into him so we finished it off with hammers.

You did a great job fixing the scratch. You can barely see it.

WOW ! ! !

DAMN, that's hard to believe that that scratch "buffed out". That looks like a fresh paint job.

Next time I am gonna detail my truck, can I give you a call for some pointers?

What I used...

1st) Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound (applied and removed by hand)

2nd) Hi-Temp prodcuts HT-61 Light Power Cut Leveler
Applied w/ a 7" high speed orbital w/ wool pad.

3rd) Meguiars #3 machine polish glaze. This restored the finish and removed the swirl marks.
Applied w/ the 7" high speed orbital, cotton pad.

4th) Turtle Wax. I was out of my Meguiars NXT.

Sorry that happened to your truck, but it does look alot better now.....much better than I would have thought just by buffing it out.

I've got to do a brake job on the beast first, but next after the next nice day we have I will try that minus the final wax on some bungee cord scratches on the side of the bed from my own hands.

Looks much better but the scratch is still there! Same thing happened to mine, got keyed. I rubbed out about 80% out but you could still "fingernail"it. Since I rubbed all the clear coat off I just said hell with it. Tailgate now at the body shop, being repainted and clear coated. $225 not a bad price to re-do the paint but I sure as hell could of bought some nice toys for the truck! Going to re-badge the tailgate with custom badges from Billetbadges.com and having the Mark LT handle done as well.

I figure if I can get it done under $300, I might get it re-done this year. I just dropped money on the Xcal2, so, the scratch will have to wait. If I think someone is too close to see the scratch, I'll just floor it!!

TO KROHBAR...

Quick question concerning the pic posted at the bottom of your messages. On your truck, you have a bug deflector and a hood scoop, but wouldn't the deflector redirect the air upwards that is necessary to make the intake effective?? I'm seriously not trying to be a smart-a$$, but just wondering...it would seem as if the deflector would limit any gains from a hood scoope, unless the scoop is cosmetic and not functional. How does this work out for you??
