They loved being outside, would lay in the snow all day as if it wasn't there, and when we did bring them inside, they were usually panting and ready to go back outside after a half hour or so!

My wife grew up in Albuquerque and their dogs ruled the GD house! It was almost as if people were allowed into the home at the sole discretion of the animals! Their hounds were the most annoying, high-maintenance PIA's you could ever imagine -- undoubtedly because of the way they were raised!

She thinks I'm cruel because I treat an animal like an animal. I think she's cruel because she treats an animal like a human. It just would never work between us.....
You and UC need to get rabbits.

A: If it is not a small dog, your dog's presence alone should deter burglars. But that is a personal matter, not my place.

B: I think there are animal cruelty laws in every state. Just because your neighbor hasn't been fined or had the animal removed doesn't mean what they're doing is legal.

This is all IMO (except the laws I guess). I just hate to see domestic animals mistreated. I hope this helps your decision.

Thanks TheFallGuy; The little lady told me to ask where to find that sort of information as she couldn't find it on the web. We are concerned and would be interested in reporting next winter. Unfortunately the laws are kinda vague.

Large Pitbull + Doghouse + -10 degree F weather = Legal abuse??

A buddy I graduated from college with back in Minnesota went to New Mexico State for his Master's Degree. He met and married a girl from Albuquerque. I was in the wedding, met his new bride's little sister, and the rest, as they say, is history!

But actually it get's weirder -- the (3) girls I have had the biggest crushes on in my life (my wife and two other girls I have met along the way) have all been 100% Irish, and born in Chicago! I've never even lived in Chicago, but it seems as if eveytime I meet an Irish lass who was born in the Windy City, I fall in love with her!

I only had to Google "Animal Cruelty". I am sure you could look for the Animal control in your area and ask or go visit.

I think that being in Colorado and wanting to keep the canine primarily outdoors I would get something with more fur that a Pit. An excellent dog with a Pit's ferocity and guard dog abilities is a Chow Chow. Beginning as far back as the Ming Dynasty; Chow's were exterior palace guard dogs and Shar Pei's were interior guard dogs. It sounds funny about the Shar Pei (the really wrinkled breed) but imagine trying to grab it by the neck to stop it from biting you. The loose skin is actually a defence mechanism towards both humans and other animals. Sorry i got side tracked.
