What size engie do those come stock with? 350?
I know he had a true dual exhaust because i could see both mufflers hanging down below the frame....

My inlaws have a set of twins.
Both are 305.
An old buddy had one back in the day and he put a balanced and blue printed 327 w/ 300 horse heads lot sof performance inside and some other out of sight goodies. It shocked alot of unsuspecting victims.

the SS had a 305 with 3.73 gears, 180 hp. a magazine one ran high 15's. i had a friend that had one and at the track it ran mid 16's, keep in mind that this was in 87 and his was in great shape.
Don't laugh. I remember the mid 80's when anything with 200 hp (or close to it) was considered fast.

God I hated those things for that.
Yeah, nothing much had bhallz compared to today's cars...
The 86 Mustang GT had an asthmatic 5.0L V-8 with 175 HP.
The 90 Camaro RS V-8 had 5.0L 170 HP V-8. (Same year Chevy had a 2.3L Quad 4 putting out 180 HP in the Beretta GTZ)
The 90 Mustang GT had 225 HP and 300 lb/ft. from the 302.
The 305 in the Monte Carlo SS, which I loved, only had 160 - 170 HP, depending on the year...
Many of today's 4 bangers have that much power, and some v-6's have 300 HP.
Today, is the heyday of sports cars... (Not counting the 60's - 1970); Even though they would still get their ***** kicked by the average 2002-Present Altima 3.5 SE/SE-R manual in 0-60 & 1/4 mile and top speed. They would just be a lot more fun to own...

The reason they dropeed for a few years was the gas crisis.
It was a couple of decades after that before us as consumers have enough trust in the oil companies that they will keep us supplied. Price is now the issue. But with modern technology and advances we are getting greater number both at the rear wheels and on the fuel gauge. Plus more advances in suspension and braking makes it safer for us to have the power too.

When i was 19 i wanted to buy a new car. I was in college and had a good job to. I test drove the Monte Carlo and i thought it rode like a boat. just to big for me back then.. I bought the Iroc z with the tpi and 4 wheel breaks and t tops. My payments in 1986 were 399.00 a month back then for 5 years. Looking abck at it today I should have bought the Grand National.
The car ended up in the shop on average about once a month, mainly computer problems, I had the warranty.
The engine in the monte was a 4 barrel carb with a 5.0 liter. it put out like it has been said around 180 hp. it had a wimpy trans 200r4 trans compaired to the 700 r4 in the camaro

but....the 305 H0 in the SS could be swapped out for....Bigger engines 355 stroker, 396 502 crate engine, and a TH700 trans,,,awsome car's, the SS Mote carlo, what the factery failed to build, you could hot rod your self, the grand national rode on the same chasis, Doors pins and bushing's were bad on the SS and all GM's Transam z28 Grand Prix, Malibu, Still the Montie and Cutlus Supreame were nicer cars than the FWD crap GM builds now.
