Calling PSS-Mag

Matt -

wasn't it you who made the call on the Video iPod some 6 months back . . .

Do you know about the upcoming Apple announcement on Tuesday?

rumor has it it will be a video iPod where the screen fills the whole thing, with a touch screen interface.

Apple filed a slew of patents last few weeks for a touch screen interface.

rumor photoshoped pix speculated this:

and then today this showed up:

This pic looks like it's from the same guys who leaked the current iPod video device and their spy pix proved to be real and correct. Hope this is because I would get this one.

Yes that was me.

Now that... I might could go for!
I wasn't thrilled with the original enough to really consider it.
I really wouldn't have any use for it. I don't watch a lot of TV anyway.
But that is cool and I could think of a few times that it would have been nice to have. I'll see what the price and actual screen size is before considering a purchase.

As for screen size, take the current video iPod, turn it sideways, and imagine the entire thing as the video display.

As for uses . . . well, when I travel I take my powerbook and try to watch DVDs. Unfortunately if there is no powerport on the plane then battery life usually doesns't last for an entire movie with screen at full brightness . . . with this, no problem. Plus the added convenience of not having to drag a bunch of DVDs around . . .

I don't watch a bunch of TV either, (only House, 24, Lost, and Alias (if it ever returns to tv)), but you can rip DVDs to play on this puppy. Totally cool!

My only concern . . . screen surface that does not easily scratch since you'd be touching it all the time. Current iPods (my nano especially) the screen scrateches easily

I have been busy the last few weeks and hadn't kept up, so this is new news to me.
Well looks like they are keeping this one pretty tight, but several rummors that appear ironically similar are floating around every where. One even speculated or hinted at the possibilty that it will be wi/fi and BT compatable. That would be beyond cool. If that is true, then the possibilities are endless.

If any of this is true, then this could be what I call a transition device. Something that changes the way all portable entertainment is done.

Man... now Im considering buying some AAPL shares

The video ipod is nothing . . . what recent events point to in the pipe is amazing and I'm thinking about aapl shares too . . . but this is not the place to talk about it.

Not buying yet though . . .

Well the Vpod is just a little incentive.
But I won't discuss strategy here either.
Just thinking right now. I'm still not 100% sold that now is the right time.

You can find a lot of TV shows on Newsgroups and torrents, FYI. If the ipod plays Divx and Xvid or can convert these files you'd be good to go.
